Can students at UCL School of Pharmacy join the UCLU? Also, King's or UCL?
I'm trying to decide whether to study Pharmacy at King's College London or UCL School of Pharmacy (formally The School of Pharmacy), and I'm wondering if people in the UCL SoP can join the UCL Union and its clubs? I ask because I know you can join the University of London Union, but that hasn't got as wide a range of societies as UCLU.
Also, which uni do you think I should pick as my firm? I originally had my heart set on UCL School of Pharmacy, but now I know that it's really small, and I'm quite worried about fitting in. I'm a self-confessed geek with very little self confidence and a bit of a social anxiety disorder, not to mention I have half a waurdrobe full of sweet/gothic Lolita fashion (no, nothing to do with the book 'Lolita'; google it) that I'm too shy to wear to college, but I want to start wearing more regularly at Uni. All in all, King's seems to have more societies around my sort of interests, but I don't want to think I could've done a better course somewhere else but wimped out!
TBH the thought of going away to Uni makes me feel ill, but I need to pick a firm choice soon :/ -
Re: Can students at UCL School of Pharmacy join the UCLU? Also, King's or UCL?
Hi. School of pharmacy is fully part of UCL and you will be able to make use of all of the UCLU facilities, societies and services.
Everyone at UCL is different to each other and no one bats an eyelid if you choose to dress "differently" for your lectures etc. (see our recent University Challenge captain for an example!).
There is a lot of welfare support from the Dean of Students' Office (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/dean-of-students/), and lots of societies to suit different tastes (http://central.uclu.org/clubs-societies/a-z.php). If you want any further details feel free to get in touch with one of us at the Union and we'll try our best to help out with any questions: http://uclu.org/services/representat...-time-officers -
Re: Can students at UCL School of Pharmacy join the UCLU? Also, King's or UCL?
Sorry, just a couple more questions:
1) Is accomadation for the school of pharmacy separated from the rest of UCL accomadation
2) Are any pets allowed in accomadation (I have a snake)
3) How far away from the school of Pharmacy is the UCLU building/facilities etc?
Sorry to be a bother! -
Re: Can students at UCL School of Pharmacy join the UCLU? Also, King's or UCL?
1) I think you get to choose which accommodation you want, I remember on the open day the pharmacy school's main accommodation was the building opposite, but I believe it was just for international students? I'm sure you can live in the same halls as main UCL though
2) Not sure, call and ask? I doubt it though.
3) About 10 minutes, not very far
You will be allowed to use all of UCL facilities, like the library and the union etc. And don't worry about not making friends I am sure you will
Not sure If you're familiar with London but everyone is so different, the lolita look won't be a problem...good luck with your decision! I firmed UCL

Re: Can students at UCL School of Pharmacy join the UCLU? Also, King's or UCL?HI. I'm having the exact same dilema as you picking between King's/UCL. Need to pick a firm, and am having such a difficult time! I'm a self confessed geek worried about fitting in too. Hopefully we might end up at the same place, then it might not be so bad since we'd already know another person there haha. I know this may not help but either way, King's and UCL both have equally good courses.(Original post by loochester)

Personally I've been wondering whether UCL will make the pharmacy students go to the main UCL campus for lectures - I liked the thought of our 'campus' being just the one building. anyone know anything about this? -
Re: Can students at UCL School of Pharmacy join the UCLU? Also, King's or UCL?Nice to meet you! I'm not sure about this, but I got the feeling the entire course would be kept within the one building.(Original post by chridhe)

So which Uni are you leaning towards atm? Personally I'm thinking of firming UCL. -
Re: Can students at UCL School of Pharmacy join the UCLU? Re: Can students at UCL School of Pharmacy join the UCLU? Also, King's or UCL?
well now lsop is part of UCL, its not just small its part of a huge uni, so you are bound to meet people with the same interests as you
and the same goes for kings
also the course is allegedly slightly harder at kings, but my cousin told me that so im not sure its 100% accurate :P

TBH I'm thinking of firming UCL too - the courses I feel are about the same standard though. Will you be applying for accommodation? -

, yeaah I did, have you? I'm so excited can't wait to start! Not yet, I haven't got my UCLuserid which they said they'd send to everyone by the end of April, but I haven't got anything yet.
Apparently the allocate the halls as well based on our preferences, but I really want to go to an intercollegiate one which all happen to be really close to UCLSop. Which ones are you looking at?

dw I'm like a gothy/emo/indie kid and so im scared of fitting in too!
I felt the same about the fact Kings is massive and not so specialist i'm more likely to fit in.

Re: Can students at UCL School of Pharmacy join the UCLU? Also, King's or UCL?
SAME HERE! just can't decide between King's and UCL. I mean personally I don't want to stuck into a single building for the following 4 years. That is not how I thought my uni life would be. But I cannot even attend to the open days cos I don't live in UK so I really need some help to decide. My biggest concern about LSOP is that it's going to be just us pharmacy students and guys believe me that might get boring!
If the school was in the UCL campus I wouldn't even waste a minute and I would just firm it right away . Have you decided yet? and if you did why that particular uni?
-
Re: Can students at UCL School of Pharmacy join the UCLU? Also, King's or UCL?same boat too, still stuck on which one to firm! when's your deadline? :P(Original post by aylin)
