UoD - Psychology Freshers '12
Since everyone starts to cuddle in the Applicant's and Accommodation thread and even the Geographers already got their own thread, I think it's time for us future masters of the minds to get a place to discuss, share and, well ... cuddle. Or whatever you like

Where are you, prospective students of Psychology at the University of Dundee 2012?!?! -
Re: UoD - Psychology Freshers '12Yeah, sorry, the deadline has passed(Original post by Gretaska)
Lol... Am I too late to announce that I'm a prospective student of Psychology at Dundee? ;3
Well, finally two. Have you already applied for accommodation?
-
Re: UoD - Psychology Freshers '12Eh ... sure(Original post by Gretaska)
So there will be no cuddling? ;( not fair..
Actually I'm thinking of renting a room. I think it's a bit cheaper o.o"
Where are you from, British or International? Have you been to an open day? Why did you choose Dundee?
-
Re: UoD - Psychology Freshers '12
Heh, no, I'm not a British.

And because of my mock exams, I couldn't come to the open days. Maybe you've been there? If it is so, then what kind of impression did you get?
I chose Dundee because I got the impression that it's homey, warm uni which is trying to become one of the greatest and that it really cares about its students.. Dunno.. It just felt right
What about you? Oh and btw, I'm Greta

Re: UoD - Psychology Freshers '12In this case, where are you from? Btw, I'm from Germany.(Original post by Gretaska)

Yes, have been there on 18th of April. Really liked the uni, very modern buildings and we had some interesting/funny presentation from the Psychology School's staff (whilst there was one guy for Politics we had 5 people talking about Psychology
). Two Postdocs, one senior lecturer (an Australian who came in the 80s to stay for two years ... well, he's still there
) and two students in their last year who are already conducting some research with the lecturers - seems to be a usual part of your degree at Dundee to participate in research.
Well, I really liked it - felt welcomed, loads of sandwiches and muffins served (yumyum), modern structures, everything in close range on the campus. Looking forward. I was just a tiny bit disappointed that they helt all of the talks in the Dalhousie Building and did not show us students the Institute of Psychology and some labs

Re: UoD - Psychology Freshers '12
Heh, Lithuania, if you know where it is located

Okay, I just loved the part about the muffins *.* Dundee, watch out, cause I'm coming to town
Joking, of course.
You are a bit disappointed that the labs weren't shown for you, so try to imagine how I feel about the fact that I haven't seen it. >.<"
I hope to get a pleasant surprise about it.
Oh and is it true that Dundee, as a city, is very gloomy?Last edited by Gretaska; 09-05-2012 at 17:42. -
Re: UoD - Psychology Freshers '12Yeah, I've heard about the Baltic states(Original post by Gretaska)

Well, you don't have to be disappointed about not having seen it, because I can reassure you that the uni is, well ... great
The School of Psychology is located in the Scrymgeour Building (I just entered it on my own initiative, though not the labs of cause) which is rather old and really beautiful. Most of the other buildings we'll use are really modern - the residences, the Dalhousie Building (that's where most of the lectures take place), the library and sports centre etc.
Dundee as a city doesn't have the greatest reputation of all cities, but this is supposed to only affect the east end, the uni is situated in the west end which is really nice and the city centre is also far away from being dingy. The waterfront is undergoing a major reconstruction (scheduled to take approximately 30 years
) at a cost of £1 billion and Dundee has been chosen as the location of the new extension for London's Victoria and Albert museum. Dundee is also one of the first three cities which have been connected to the UK's new optical fibre network, so the internet in the residences is bound to be super-fast
When I arrived before the open day everything seemed grey but that was due to the bad weather, the next day the sun came out and Dundee proved it's reputation as the sunniest city in Scotland.Last edited by Sir Fox; 13-05-2012 at 21:51.
