    Anywhere to Park?
Im trying to get hold of a parking permit but have no idea how - I was thinking of asking my boss to write me up a pay slip "confirming" I work over 10 hours per week so Im eligible for one, but im not sure what the process is? And if it doesnt work out, is there anywhere to park on/ around campus where I wont get clamped? I need to commute back and forth to Birmingham on a weekly basis to help out family with a few issues, nothing major but its not worth paying £60 on train tickets when I could do it for £30 or less on LPG.

The student car parking policy is here:

    http://www.lancs.ac.uk/estates/docum...L%20AGREED.pdf

You must fall into one of those categories to get a permit, and have the relevant proof. They are very strict and there are no exceptions. It's all managed by one woman and she sticks to every letter of the policy.

If you don't qualify, you can park on campus and pay-and-display. This currently costs £5/day, although free evenings and weekends.

Alternatively, there are a few places you can park (for free) on surrounding roads. Hazelrigg Lane (to the south of campus) is the most popular place as it's close to a lot of the student accommodation - it's usually very busy and difficult to get a space because of this. There's also Bailrigg Lane to the north. Both the uni and the police actively discourage people from parking in both locations (it's legal though as long as you don't cause an obstruction).

    Parking on campus?
I should be starting at Lancaster in October and was just wondering what the deal is with student parking? After researching the topic online, it seems they offer some sort of parking permit but you have to meet certain criteria.

After visiting the campus on an open day I presumed I would just be able to leave my car in one of the car parks for an annual fee, but I'm not sure this is case.

I understand the campus has good transport links but I enjoy the freedom of a car and was planning on driving up with all my bags and things on the first day in October. I also planned to visit my grandparents who live nearby in Claughton by driving there on the weekend or whenever I got the chance.

Just wondering if anyone can clear this up for me, as a student can you park on campus? if not, is there a car park nearby?

    Thank you in advance

    Jordan

The road there has been fiddled with since the Streetview camera did it's thing. There are still a lot of cars parked but double yellows are there in places and it gets busy.

I parked my car on Hazelrigg Lane for two years and it was a right pain - the spaces always run out and then you have to drive round other places a lot further away from campus to find a space, which isn't really worth the hassle to be honest.

This year after some 'words' from the police security opened up eligibility for parking permits on South West campus for all students. I reckon if Hazelrigg Lane is still rammed next year and causing somewhat a nuisance they will do the same, as they always have hundreds of free spaces that could be used. There are also some people that have land in Galgate (just south of the university) who rent out their land for student car parking - but if you think you are eligible for a permit or they go on general release once more I'd definitely worth it over the stress and nuisance of parking on residential roads off campus!

Thank you, I'm hoping they go on general sale then, if not I really dont want the hassle of trying to park down lanes so I think I'll enquire about the Galgate land.
