Dropping out of Salford Uni - advice needed
Hi there, I am currently nearing the end of my first year on a Spanish and French degree at the University of Salford, after a pretty miserable year I've decided on dropping out and have re-applied to Universities for September 2012 entry.

Was just wondering how to go about withdrawing from University, who do I tell first? University, landlord (who works in partnership with the University and will be notified if I drop out), or Student Finance? I really don't want to incur any charges for leaving early, and as I'm so close to the end of the year I don't begruge having to pay the £10,000 or so debt that I have already incurred this year, as long as I can pay it back with the rest of my loan as I had originally planned to. I just want to put this year behind me, and get on with a degree that I'll enjoy.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Talk to your university tutor and they should be able to advise you.

Im in a similar situation, done a year and hate it.
Luckily I hold an unconditional already.

But as for leaving uni, its pretty simple!
Student finance fund you for length of course +1 year. So a 3 year course you will get 4 years funding no questions asked.
That means if you leave this year, you can start a new course without having to pay anything back at all AND receive funding for your new course.

I wanted to complete the year as I don't like starting a job and not getting it done, it also makes things easier in terms of not having to payback student finance and so on. (If you leave, they expect you to payback some of the money as you didn't have any reason to spend it!)
You are so close to the end of uni, I presume you will do the same.
In that case it should just be a simple jobby of reapply for student finance and letting them know you've changed course!

Contact your tutour/program leader - They will advice you on how to actually leave the uni in terms of not being enrolled, as I don't actually know how to do this yet!

Best of luck - Let me know how you get on
