Transferring from Nottingham Trent to University of Nottingham
Alright so this is something that has been playing on my mind ever since I decided to accept Trent's offer and come to Nottingham. The reason behind this is because I have cerebral palsy and have had difficulties dealing with life on the city campus at Trent and feel as though Nottingham Uni would be a lot better suited to me.

I'm doing law and my firm was Warwick but I liked Uni of Nottingham a lot too. I did 4 A levels so the offer was AAAD. I ended up with A*BBB, not far off As in all the Bs. I actually beat the required points by 20 but as you all know unis like Warwick don't take that into account. It's the elusive AAA that matters, which I understand. I contacted Warwick after my rejection and they told me had it not been so oversubscribed that year (due to fees) they probably would have been more flexible with my application, but that's life. Warwick was ideal for me because of how the campus was set-up and how close it was to home for me (Leicester). You might ask why I didn't just apply for Leicester in the first place but I felt as though an important part of uni, especially for me, was moving out and gaining that independence after being so dependent on my family my entire life. Anyway after my rejection for Warwick I tried to get into Leicester through clearing (beat their requirements for clearing by 100 points) but I was too late. So then it was either take a gap year or settle for my insurance Trent.

I don't regret coming to Trent. I'm sure I made the right decision. I've had fun, made great friends and the Law school is one of the best departments at the university but I really do feel like life would be so much easier for me at Nottingham Uni. Now I know that's no good reason for them to accept me but I feel as though I'm academically capable of performing well there. I believe I can achieve a first this year.

To cut the rambling on, what's the likelihood of getting a transfer from Trent to Uni Of? I hear of transfers the opposite way all the time but I don't really hear about from Trent to Uni Of. Would it be worth having a go? Would I be wasting my time? Would they take my reasons as legitimate?

Cheers to anyone who has read this whole thing through. Replies would be greatly appreciated.

What you'd need to do is contact the law school at Nottingham and ask them the likelihood of being able to transfer there.

Transfers are definitely possible. I know of several people at UCL that have transferred from less competitive universities like City, Brunel, and QMUl.

As the other dude said, definitely e-mail them first explaining your grades and whatnot. Most Universities require you to meet their initial entry requirements before being accepted onto the course; so take that in to account. Regardless though, if they say they'll consider you then there is no harm in trying. The offer they would make you would be dependent on you achieving at least a 2,1 most likely and you seem pretty confident you'll beat that, so if you got to that stage I doubt it'd be a problem!

I've really never heard of transfers here at Nottingham, and law's dropout rate I think is rather low making them presumably less keen to make up numbers. The standard advice I hear, if you really are committed to changing, is a recommendation that you go back through the UCAS system and apply all over again. Not that I want to worry you, but they have exceptionally high demands for law (A*AA); it may be the case that if you did apply, the fact that you've finished your A Levels and your results are already secure would make them slightly more lenient with your grades, but I can't say for certain how much. The course, and uni as a whole, is just so competitive (highest number of uni applications in the UK this year).

    Also, just found their FAQ:
    Q. Can I apply for entry to the second year if I have already started my law degree elsewhere?
    A. We accept entry only to the first year of our courses.
I wish I had better news.

Aye not looking good is it. I guess it's worth a bash contacting them anyway, no harm. Does make me feel a little better in a way since according to that transferring never really seemed like an option.

Cheers for the replies so far guys.

Email the department at the Uni.. during my previous study (which was Law) I transferred Uni's and I initially just emailed them to ask about it, along with details of the modules I had studied and the grades recieved. It was a little difficult to find somewhere that would take me as for it to be a qualifying law degree you need to have covered certain topics, so it could only really work if they had similiar first years.

Definately worth a go though - bit like Craig_D said, you may have to reapply for first year again.

Oh, just noticed the later post saying they only except entry into first year.. my bad! Oh well, I would definately give it a go anyway, as you said, there's no harm in asking.

Also, realised that this post is really quite old (Sorry, new to the forum). I hope you got the outcome you desired!
