    Highers for Economics
Basically I want to do economics at Uni. And my school doesn't do economics an higher/SG/AH.

These are my current higher choices: Physics, English, Maths, Chemistry and History.

    Are they useful for Economics?
Also should i get rid of history and maybe do economics at a college?

    Any help?

They will be fine, taking maths physics and chemistry might be a struggle though. Maths and Physics would be more than enough.

Does your school offer Highers in Accounting, Business Management, Modern Studies etc? I think they would be more suitable to Economics than Chemistry or Physics?

You have picked the same Highers as I'm doing. They are strong and respectable subjects however I don't see how any sciences could be required for Economics. (I may be wrong..)

Economics is a science, or parts of it are.

I took part in a Model United Nations conference where every participant and their school was designated a country to represent and a topic. I had Sweden and Economics, from what I researched of it, it was mainly social sciences rather than 'natural' sciences such as Chemistry and Physics.

Is Economics taught as a subject at your school? I wish it was at mine !

Yeah I wouldn't say it was a hard science but there are some bits that are sciencey and even a few Physics concepts that get applied to Economics and Finance if you study it further.

Nah I had to self teach, I think some FE colleges do it though if you really wanted.

Did my higher economics this morning.

Honestly it doesn't matter one iota as long as you have the highers and preferably maths(and not higher cake decorating)

Economics isn't particularly hard to get into. I have pretty average highers and literally devoted one sentence of my PS to economics and Edinburgh gave me an unconditional.

Depends on the uni, it's harder to get into than Medicine at some places. Mostly the ones that are targeted by Investment Banks.

Why does medicine come into the arguement?

It seems to be the go to 'hard course to get into'.

Sorry but this thread is about Economics and to be honest your statement didn't make much sense.

Err, dunno what's not relevant or hard to understand about a comparison, but alright.

Those highers are good for economics, and are all typically "respected" highers. I did the same highers if you swap history for music (although I'm doing Medicine not economics.) As long as your grades for those subjects are good then you'll likely get an offer

Out of curiosity, are you hoping to go to uni in Scotland, or England? You would also have to do advanced highers for most English universities in 6th year, but if your highers are good enough you might get an unconditional for Scottish uni's based on your 5th year results.

Preferably I would like to go to one in England but I wouldn't mind going to one in Scotland.
Also would you know what Advanced Highers would be useful to do in 6th year? Thanks

From those, Maths and History are most relevant. Would be nice if you could get Economics or even Business Studies as nerd434 said.

I would have to do Higher buisness because my school does not allow straight on to higher if you don't do SG for 5th year and straight onto AH if you want to do it in 6th year without doing higher.

Well any relevant stuff helps obviously. For subjects that aren't traditional sciences a lot of places will let you crash them if you got a decent result in SG English, so you could take that to an FE college (but then why not do Economics itself) or even talk to your school and let them know why you want to do it, they might let you if they think it will help you to get into the uni course you want.

I mean technically you can get on an undergrad course with just Maths as the minimum requirement for most unis, but I'm assuming you'll be applying to the more competitive places if you're willing to go down south and pay fees.
