The Uni of Sheffield or Bristol for Archaeology
Hey guys, so I received unconditional offers from Bristol and Sheffield, but I can't go to any of the open days to actually see the cities before I make a decision because I'm out of the country for a few months. So I have to base my decisions soley of off the internet...

I know they're both really good schools, but I just want to hear some reviews, especially on the archaeology departments as well as which city has nicer accommodation. Other things about each city that can help me make my decision would be welcome as well Thanks!

I expect you've already made your decision, but as a student studying arch at Bristol, I'd go with Sheffield. Don't get me wrong, Bristol as a city is awesome and the uni itself has great facilities etc etc. I have a friend who goes to Sheffield though and he loves it. Accommodation is much of a muchness really.

Its more the department/course to be honest. Disorganised is putting it mildly. No-one is happy about our module choices for yr 2 and i've been quite disappointed with the sheer lack of contact time. I have 7 hours a week of lectures this semester. Woohoo you may think, but to be fair, when you'll be paying 9,000 a year for this course, it makes you wonder what the hell they do with your money.

Thank you for replying Pink_Butterfly! It's difficult to find actual student reviews for archaeology.

I haven't made my decision yet. I have till June 7th, thankgod!

I had a feeling that the department at Bristol wasn't that great. Mostly because when ever I called, to ask about the course or about switching to arch/anthro (i'm interested in forensic anthropology), they didn't seem to want to help me much. I guess it's the whole prestige thing that's made me keen on considering Bristol.

Sheffield on the other hand, looks like it has a good department with staff that seem really nice. Nice enough to call me in America to arrange an interview when I wasn't in the country! I just wasn't sure whether or not I'd be happy in the city.

You wouldn't happen to know anything on Cardiff uni would you? I also have an offer from them.
