Living at home and going to cov university..
    Hi,

I'm hoping to study adult nursing at Coventry university and I'm currently considering living at home at the same time.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how they got on when they did this? Was it fairly easy to join in with the university life even though they weren't staying in the halls?
My offer is also for the January intake.. Is it possible to still join in on fresher's week although I won't have started yet?

    Thanks

I've applied for Adult Nursing at Cov too, and was planning on living at home. I think it will still be possible to join in freshers week, maybe a little bit more expensive, because you might have to travel in taxis and such, but definitely possible.

I guess the only problem with living at home with AN is that your shifts vary and could be anywhere.
Also- Bear in mind that halls aren't the only place to meet people and such. You'll meet lots of fantastic people on a nursing course, i'm sure.

    Good luck!

I was a fresher this year studying Advertising and Marketing and I stayed at home too. I joined in with loads of the freshers events and it was fine. I decided to join a club to help integrate a bit better - if you want a fun time join the Coventry Cougars Cheer and Dance Society! It's a blast

The freshers fair in the last week of September is good to get to know whats on offer and you'd still be able to go regardless of whether you start in January or not I'd guess.

Thanks for the replies guys.. Only just read them though, I'm afraid!

If you're staying at home and travelling into Coventry.. Have you figured out how yet? Would be helpful to know what others are doing

Hey I will be commuting also and have the same worries about integration.
I am doing a degree in English and TEFL and will be taking the bus each day. I hear there are good bus lanes into Coventry and that's one of the reasons I am choosing the bus over driving, as I cant stand rush hour traffic lol.
I am commuting from near Hinckley and the bus goes right by my house. Petrol and parking prices also concerned me, based on a four day week in uni I will only be paying 230 per month for the bus.
Only annoying thing is having nowhere to store my books etc but I can live with that lol.
    Good luck with everything!

Hiya, I am also commuting from my home in Leamington, I will hopefully be driving if I can sort out parking and learn the way haha, although I might end up getting the train for the first few weeks until I settle in maybe.

I thought I was crazy to stay at home, but now it seems not. I'm doing biomed science in September.

If you're super fit like my biology teacher, you could cycle to Coventry in under an hour from Leamington, he did that every day there was good weather, but he was totally crazy and hates teaching anybody that didn't look like they came from sixth-form.

yes, coventry really appealed to me because a lot of people do seem to live at home and commute, and they spoke about it at their open day which impressed me because no other university I'd seen had mentioned it.

jon_a.k.a_bob, I could never cycle all that way! it'd kill me, haha

I start in september, dont know exactly when though. Scary!

Driving from leamington won't be too bad.. Just down the bypass a little.. I'm thinking that the park and ride is possibly the cheapest way to do it if you want to drive. What school did you come from before cos I only live in kenilworth!
I've got to say I feel a lot more confident now i'm actually finding people that are also commuting, nice not to feel like the only one!

Ooh that's quite a way! I would suggest the train for that journey though.. Would be quicker and possibly more pleasant

Yay! Finally more people who are commuting from home, I was getting a little worried because everyone seems to be actually living there, so now I know I'm not on my own! I'm from Birmingham so I'll be driving there but I can car share with my brother as he's starting uni too

I guess the train would be quicker, it just saves me walking into the airport train station (assuming it goes to coventry) The bus passes my house.

Ill have to trial run them both some time.

I'm commuting too not sure whether using the park and ride or getting the bus will be easier/cheaper from Rugby, so i'll have to trial both. But its nice to know there are others that'll be living from home!

Hello, i'm going to Coventry University to Study Business Administration and i'm living at home too! I live in Burbage so I'll probably catch the train from my local train station. Normally get away with child return tickets so only £3.80 return
