Off campus accommodation? Flats?
Hi guys,
I am considering coming to Falmer for my PGCE and will need to find accommodation off campus. What is the market like for studio/1 bed/2 bed flats? Are any of these advertised on studentpad (or equivalent uni run databases)? I've looked on rightmove and other websites and there really doesn't seem to be any flats about. If anyone has experience of this/knows prices/locations it would be much appreciated.
And please don't suggest sharing with other people. I am not prepared to do this unless my friend comes to Brighton too (hence the 2 bed flat).
Thanks -
Re: Off campus accommodation? Flats?
I lived in a seafront studio flat (unfurnished) with my boyfriend, costing just over 400 pounds a month. This price included heat and hot water since everything was heated up in the basement of the apartment block. We lived directly opposite the West Pier so it was really central - 5 mins to bus stop to go to uni, 6/7 mins to Churchill Square, 10 mins to the other pier....and of course about 30 seconds to the beach
The flat was an absolute bargain for the location and size (it had a separate kitchen and big hallway with massive cupboards which made it feel much bigger) - it was only this price as it was a little run down shall we say...old bathroom suite, old windows, old kitchen etc. We looked at studios around the railway station too but they were so tiny - not much bigger than a room in halls on campus!! - and the same price as the flat we eventually got. We found that there are a lot of studio flats in the centre of town where you share bathrooms, for about 400/month, though we didn't go and have a look at these.
For a 1 bedroom in town you're looking at about 600/month at least. Our flat was advertised on YourMove, and the others we visited we found through various property agencies in town, some national companies, some local. Didn't see any on studentpad.Last edited by gemini89; 12-05-2012 at 16:55. -
Re: Off campus accommodation? Flats?Sounds like you got a really good deal there! I've not checked out yourmove before so will have a look. That's the sort of price I'd be looking to pay if the flat was unfurnished(Original post by gemini89)
