    UNO student day fare?
I got the bus from college lane to fleetville (st albans) today, and on the website it says students can get a zone 1 day ticket for £2.50. But when I asked the bus driver said they don't do that, and I was charged £3.30 for a return.

Is it because I didn't show any student ID/say I was a student? I thought that would have been clear since I was getting the bus from campus, and even so he would have said something?

It will be because you didn't have student ID or mention about being a student (normally they are strict about ID but I think at the start of term they are more lenient as long as you make them aware you are a student).

There are quite a few people that are not students that get buses from college lane to elsewhere, if they have to change between routes etc. So they won't automatically assume you are a student.

I will be getting the bus from Barnet, how much will it be just out of interest?

Whenever I have got the 614 from the galleria to the spires or something with my savercard has cost me about 2 odd quid for a return.

But I believe with your student discount you can get a day ticket for both zones for 3.50.

Ah you can't, unofortunately it is for people aged 16-18 in education in Herts.
You can only get the student discount for being a UH student.

I heard the bus driver today say that being a student in Zone 1 is more expensive, then if you're not and the discount only works in your favour if you're going into Zone 2.

Was that to the station or town centre, it works out cheaper just getting a standard return then. Its definitely cheaper to get a student day ticket than return otherwise, it would cost me about £3 something for a return within zone 1.

If you check this link you can see that a one zone pass for the day is 50% of the non-student one and a two zone one is still £1.50 cheaper than a non-student so I don't see the logic of "only works in your favour if you're going into Zone 2"

No. You would have to get the bus from de hav (Just across the road from campus) to the train station. Or a cab. Quite a few buses go via the train station on their routes.

Which bus can I get from Dehav bus stop (the one that the shuttle bus stops at) to the Hatfielf Train Station?

I was told I had to get the shuttle bus then get on 603 at college lane to Hatfield train station but it's so much hassle every weekend with a suitcase so I thought a bus from dehav - station would be so much simpler!

Take the 607 or 609 from salisbury village, it's like a 5 min walk from de hav. It's the neighbourhood right next to the campus. Just walk up to Cunningham Avenue and go for the first bus stop! Both go to the train station.

Thank you! I shall have to have a hunt around for Salisbury Village. I do remember seeing a sign saying Cunningham Avenue and giggling so it does seem pretty near! Much better than carrying my suitcase on and off to College Lane every weekend!

As Pop_tart rightly says, you can catch the UNO 607 circular bus (the separate 608 and 609 no longer run, due to council funding cutbacks, so the 607 which formerly only ran late evenings and Sundays/bank holidays is a combination of the two) at the back of de Hav - no need to even walk as far as the Salisbury Village/Cunningham Avenue stop, there is a request one in Albratross Way, that`s the road running along the rear of the de Hav halls, marked `Temporary Flag` almost opposite the gates at the back of the Law School car park and Shenley and Ashwell Halls. From here to the town/rail station the journey time is no more than 10mins, buses every half hour even on Sundays/bank holidays, twenty minutes Mon - Fri peak hours.

Also since the 608/9 routes merger after the funding cuts in April 2011, the evening service of the 607 from the rail station is routed after leaving Cunningham Avenue into the de Hav campus itself (bus stop R, after 20.00 Mon-Fris, 19.00 weekends) travelling back to the station via the Comet-Galleria-Cavendish Way- town -rail station, which gives students a most useful service from and to the rail station into de Hav (stop R, by the side entrance opposite The Sports Village), journey time to the station around 9mins, from station 15 mins.
During the day, after leaving Cunningham Avenue in Salisbury Village it travels along Albratross Way - Mosquito Way- Tamblin Avenue- Parkhouse - Airfield Motel - Lemsford Rd- Town- rail station.

And bear in mind the Sunday evening service, having been stopped for six months last year after the council cuts, (the 607 is council and estate developer supported/funded, except for Sunday evenings) was re-introduced by UNO on a trial basis after protests from students and residents alike and is run commercially, will only be retained if used sufficiently. This also applies to the weekday evening services ; so use or lose!

See also my detailed thread on this subject of 8th Feb `12 on page9 which additionally gives train connections. All comments welcome and will be answered.

Note; Since posting these threads some months ago, there have been changes;from 29 July 2012, the in-Hatfield service in both directions of the 602 now loops in and out of the de Hav Campus bus stops interchange instead of just going along the main St Albans Rd; bear in mind though to and from Hatfield rail station the 602 goes not directly but circuitously via the Forum and South Hatfield first, booked journey time 19-23 mins.
The 658 (St Albans- Borehamwood and return, hourly Mon -Sats) now starts and finish service from Hatfield Business Park, going via de Hav, Galleria, town centre and Hatfield rail station; the 601 will have extra buses in the evening; the 604 (Hatfield rail station- Forum) will be replaced by a beefed up 603.
Also of interest to students is that the 615 (Hatfield- Stanmore-Hatfield) will now runs hourly on Sats as well.

    There are other timetable/route variations too numerous to detail quickly here but the following services are effected;
    600/650, 601, 602, 603, 604,610,615,620,621,622,625 (new route), 634, 635,641,646/7(new service),658,659 (new service) 700,712,HA1,821/884.

All these timetables changes are online on either the UNO (unobus.info) or Herts County Council `Intalink` sites. There are also timetable booklets on the UNO buses outlining the changes.

You will note on pages two and five of the new (as from 29th July 2012) UNO timetable booklet " Where to get on and off your bus" all stops have been listed except the one said about above marked `Temporary Flag` in Albratross Way at the back of the de Hav Campus halls. I have requested at least twice to both UNO and the council that this useful stop is included in the timetable book but so far to no avail, possibly because the road ownership legalities between Council and Estate developers still having to be finalised.

Please read my other threads regarding the bus services and train connections of 17 May, 3rd April, 13 March, 20th Feb and especially that of 8th Feb 2012, this which is now on page 9.
    Your comments welcome.

A return ticket say, from Salisbury Village/de Hav to Hatfield rail station and back is currently (May2012) £2, irrespective as far as I know of being a student or resident; I believe this is cheaper than using your student pass, which would be I think £3. A normal single is £1.40p., I also think this applies from South Hatfield and the like to and from the rail station and within zone 1.
