    medical school applicant
Hi, I have a strong GCSE profile and have done a lot of work experience in the hope of getting onto a medicine course in 2013, however I have not been placed on the Head Girls team in my school as my teachers do not want extra responsibilities to affect my work. Some other prospective medics have been given places, and I am worried that this will affect my application. How much will medical schools read into this and do I still have a realistic chance of being accepted onto a medicine course?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It won't affect your application provided that you have other extra curriculars to demonstrate the attributes they're looking for. Extra curriculars like being head girl aren't as important as the work experience/voluntary side of an application. You can still give yourself the best chance of getting interviews, so I wouldn't worry too much if I was you

It's not the end of the world :lolwut:
You are not going to be horribly disadvantaged by not being a Head Girl. If you have other extra-curriculars you'll be fine. To ask whether you have a chance based purely on this? Yes, you do... but we can't really answer properly.

No, it won't matter, as long as you have other leadershippy stuff on there.

Though I will admit that I cried the day I found out I wasn't going to be interviewed for Head Girl ( :o: ) because I thought I wouldn't get into medicine. But then I managed to prove myself nicely wrong a few months later.

Whilst it would look good on a personal statement/reference, it's not really a deciding factor. Get everything else right and you won't have any trouble. After all, Medicine isn't full of head boys and head girls!

Yes, you have a realistic chance My GCSE profile wasn't particularly strong, nor was I head boy, but played to my strengths and now I have 2 med school offers. Best of luck

We didn't have Head Boys/ Girls where I did my A levels and I still managed it.

I know a head girl who did not get into medicine. It's not something you must be to get into medicine. There are tons of stuff to make you stand out and demonstrate all the qualities and skills you have.

I know a guy who got picked last for football and was a rubbish goalkeeper, and the med schools said he would have had a place if he just got picked as a defender. These things do matter!

I reckon you're ****ed, give up now.

Of course you have a shot, not everyone who gets an offer is a Head human superhero with fifty A Level A*s and plays international cricket!!!
