I'm studying LLB and Criminology at the University of Derby (not the best uni in the world, but still love it) and I really have no idea of what I want to do after University. I am about to finish my second year and everyone else seems to have a steady idea of what they want to do, apart from me. I'm well on track for getting a 2:1 providing I do as well at Uni next year as I have this year. I do not wish to practice law when I finish.

I went to the careers centre at Uni after completing psychometric tests that they'd initially sent me away to do, however they just told me to come back when I have a vague idea! Could anybody throw a few ideas around or suggest any websites that could help me? I know I sound pathetic, but I'm really struggling. I'm a 'people person' and would love a career helping victims of crime or something like that, but I'm unsure as to whether my degree is relevant in doing this?

Perhaps a specialist role in the Police? Or SOCA?

    First of all, don't panic.

It might take you a while to figure out what you actually want from your degree, so keep exploring your options. If you don't want to go down the Law side of things, you could go on to get your Masters to give you some more thinking time...

If you want to get into a 'people' based career, how about charity work? Especially considering that you want to help victims of crime, there are some great charities out there. Victim Support sounds like a good one to have a look at. In your spare time, you could volunteer in this area to show your interest, and it would be a great way of trying it out before committing to a full-time position. I think there is a Victim Support in Derby, actually.

    Hope this helps!
