Is anyone here an optician/works in an optician's?
I'll try to summarise this in short:
I've been working part time in an opticians whilst doing my A levels.
They've recently put me on an NVQ course.
There's a prospect of sending me on a sponsored degree course to become an optician/practise manager.
The problem:
My life plans didn't involve being an optician. My original plan was to study chemistry/physics and work in that field.
I do reckon I'll be miserable if I do anything but that.
But with the job market being tight and all, the little voice in the back of my head is telling me that I should probably take the chance as it'd guarantee me a decent paying career.
Not sure what to do. Do I gamble and go for what I want to do, despite that it may mean I will not be employed? Or do I take the corporate path - accept a career that I'm half arsed about and in return get a solid job with a decent salary.
A penny for your thoughts.
P.s. Where's me keys where's me phone.Last edited by tamimi; 12-04-2012 at 17:23. -
I too am currently doing my A levels and am working part time in an Opticians every saturday - snap!
In terms of the job itself, will they be paying for you to become an Optometrist? Or simply a manager?
Quite simply, you need to think about is whether or not, when you get up in the morning would you mind doing this for the rest of your life? Because that's what it boils down to. If you don't mind working there then you might as well, the pay is good - you are right, and you're pretty much guaranteed a very stable future as everyone needs glasses at some point in their life!
