Not sure if I should buy laptop, desktop or both?
Okay basically I'm kinda going crazy because I really cannot make up my mind.
I have about £1100~ maybe more maybe less I'm not really sure yet
Basically I'm moving homes so I'm going to need a new desktop .. but I'm also starting university next September and I'm going to need a laptop.
I was considering the Macbook pro 13", but new ones are coming out in a few weeks. They're going to be more expensive and not THAT much of a difference, ivy and sandybridge, a bit thinner, just minor upgrades in my honest opinion so I'm really not into spending more money just for an upgrade like that.
Now people said forget about going for a gaming desktop since I'll be starting university and won't even have much time on my hands.
Basically I do some of everything .. mostly gaming, some editing, a lot of multitasking .. etc

    So any tips?

Your laptop will only be used in lectures, so a relatively cheap one will suffice. As far as the desktop goes, you'd have a good £700 to spend on it, which could buy a relatively good gaming PC (which in turn is good at most other things). I'm not going to go through all the PC options because there are thousands of resources on the internet.

I would go for the laptop - I have an old MacBook Pro which is amazing. Not sure about gaming though, as I don't play much. Everything else works really well. I wouldn't go for a desktop, but thats just me.

Pfft seems like rubbish - you won't have masses of time to game but you'll definitely have some.

Go for a desktop and just a desktop. How often are you going to need a computer outside of your room or the library?

Doubt Apple will put the prices up. They never do.
You should be able to get the new Macbook Pro for £860. They're rumoured to have retina displays which is insane in a laptop. There wont be anything comparable. Ivy Bridge is slightly faster than Sandy and uses a lot less power so you'll get better battery life and maybe even a quad core option in the 13 inch pro. They should also be getting USB 3.0.
This should be the biggest update the Macbook Pros have had it years.

With that budget i would try and find a really good laptop since top end laptops can be more powerful than many desktops. Then you can have the power of a desktop with the portability of a laptop which will be particularly useful at uni.
If you really want a desktop try to get one on the cheap to go with the laptop but you don't really need one if you get the right laptop

Are you gonna be living at uni? Cos getting a desktop can be a hassle, unless your staying at home, it would be fine and getting a cheap but decent laptop.

what do you do on a computer?

if you do a lot of gaming i'd say get a really good computer and then a cheap laptop if you even need one.
however if your not an intensive gamer i'd say get a really good laptop either a dell, toshiba or even a mbp

The macbook pro upgrade is set to be the biggest upgrade to the MBP since the current Unibody design in 2008, its a massive upgrade! But if you really do a lot of gaming it might be worth getting a mid priced gaming desktop £700 leaving you £400 to spend on a laptop but if you can stretch it might be worth investing another £200 to get an ultrabook which is far more practical for carrying around Uni!
