    BU Public Relations
    Hello,

I will be studying Public Relations at Bournemouth Uni in Sep 2012, was wondering if anyone could give me some info on the uni/social/nightlife etc as they don't go into much detail on those topics at the open days!!

Would be really useful to learn about the accommodation as I will be living up there, also if anyone is reading this and is also doing PR let me know!!

    Thanks x

    heyy

I don't do PR but I do journalism so its in the media school which is a great school to be in - loads of amazing facilities and so much to get involved in e.g The Bournemouth Rock, Nerve Radio, Nerve magazine etc.

Social/night-life is fab - there is a student night pretty much every day of the week so there is never a shortage of places to go... Also you get freshers fortnight which is a fortnight of themed events to get you started on the student lifestyle! Of course there is always the beach for day time as well as 2 cinemas and if you fancy venturing out to Poole there is a bowling alley and swimming pool there.

Bournemouth shopping is good - all the shops you could think of really.. topshop, new look, river island, debenhams, primark, zara etc.

In terms of accommodation ... I live in Purbeck and love it - its flats of 5/6 people sharing a kitchen. Cranbourne is an older version of Purbeck however I think it is being renovated next year so that will possibly not be an option. I would go for Purbeck, Chesil or Lyme Regis which are the three newest ones and set in Landsdowne which is just round the corner from the old fire station (student union club) and a 5/10 minute walk into town and to the beach. Corfe house is quite far out however is supposed to be lovely (have never visited myself). The Student Village is on campus - so useful for getting to lectures however again its a bit out of town so you will rely on buses and taxis more for nights out.

    Enjoy! x

    Hey

Thanks for your reply really helped, with the accommodation is it on a first come first served basis or do you have it allocated for you? Also would this be decided before or when I start uni? Sorry for all the questions my college has been really crap about the whole uni thing, thanks x

    Haha no worries
As far as I know it's on first come first served so I applied as soon as my place was confirmed on results day. If you already have an unconditional place you can apply now I still got my first choice but my advice would be apply as soon as you can! X

We have just seen pictures of a newer accommodation block, near asda and the train station (about a 2minute walk from Lyme Regis/Purbeck) called Dorchester House, I think - which looks very nice as well!

dorchester house is the flagship new accommodation block. Sure it will be lovely, but just thought i would point out that it is literally above the railway tracks - depends on how you feel about noise!
