Braces in upper sixth?
Hi I'm in lower sixth and will probably be getting braces (the toothy ones) in summer. I'm a little bit nervous because everyone is getting theirs taken off now and I'm getting them put on.
Do university interviewers judge you a bit more if you do have them? I'm kind of scared that they'll see me as perhaps more immature than other students who don't have braces :P
I know it's silly but I'd appreciate any people who had braces in upper sixth to tell me about it
(Makes me feel less alone, haha...) What is life like with braces? :O
Thanks a lot and sorry if this is in the wrong forum :P -
Re: Braces in upper sixth?
Toothy braces? - do you mean block braces? (google them
)
if you mean block braces... they are awful! i used to have them about 2 years ago. Made my face look horrible and had them on for about 10 months. Thank god i know have normal wire braces because they arent as ugly :/
Im in year 11 and will be wearing braces into 6th form probably, a lot of people wear braces in 6th form (never seen a 6th former in block braces though :/ )
anyway, youll have nice teeth in the end

Re: Braces in upper sixth?I got mine just before starting Y12 and got them off at the end of my first term at uni. It really isn't a big deal. My auntie even got braces at age 30 when she was a teacher! It won't affect your uni interviews, or any job interviews or anything - long gone are the days were anyone who had braces was a 'dork' and got bullied for it, in fact they're so common nowadays its tricky to find someone who didn't have braces!
And there are benefits to having them on when you start uni and then get them off: everyone notices the transformation. If you just show up with straight teeth nobody notices, if you have braces and then straight teeth people compliment you on them and then you feel it was worth it because people noticed the difference (or maybe that's just me, I always hated my teeth because they were SERIOUSLY wonky but I also didn't like how the braces looked and then when I got them off and one of my lab tutors complimented me, it all felt worth it - this is a lab of 60 people with three tutors, it was a big deal as far as I'm concerned).
Anyway, narcissistic rambling aside (and a kind of TL;DR): it won't make a difference to any decent person, or to you unis or whatever and it'll be worth it when you can smile with confidence in the end.
