OCR AS History Exams - 22nd May
    HI,
I did the OCR History exam today for French Revolution. I was so stupid and thought that I had 15 mins more than I did as I looked at the wrong time
So for the 70mark question i only got to write, 'In conclusion I feel the nobility were the main cause but also popular discontent as well as the kings faults.'

I had written a good, detailed answer up until there I think as I thought I had so much more time. The rest of the paper went well and I wrote a conclusion for the 30 mark.

So will I lose a lot of marks for this, how many marks is a conclusion? And will I even get any marks?
    Owww so upset

    Thank you

I did Democracy and Dictatorship in Germany, but I am sure it was fine.

As long as you wrote a bit of a judgement it could be ok, and if you think you had a detailed analysis up to that point that it will be fine

Hi. I did French Rev today too. I think if your last essay was as good as you say, and you made interim judgements as you went along it wont be disaterous - you may get a bit lower than you otherwise would have done but not drastically. IMO.
How did you find the paper in general? I thought it was pretty hard this year - the groupings for part B were not that obvious, the provenance of the sources.... tbh there wasn't any major points to make, just generic comments on bias etc. I don't think i did well on it at all - nowhere near as good as my mock

I did the Italian Unification questions 1815-1870. The essays went well, I fully elaborated my points and fully explained the sources but I ran out of time and did not get to do a conclusion . If the essay is good but you did not do a conclusion does anyone know what grade you could get? I was hoping for a A seeing that i already have a b in AS history but had to repeat it due to moving college.

Yeah really want to get an A, fingers crossed I can still get it!
Yeah I think a conclusion will just give you judgement marks, but I hope i'll get points for doing that throughout. Still frustrating though.

i thought it was ok, just very general, you couldn't really pick out certain points to say as it was all really before the revolution had even began. But I had quite a bit to write about for omissions, no in all my mocks I had got a's, so i hope i'll get one in this too.
Hopefully the other history exam I did last week that went well will bring this exam up if its lower than I want
    Hope all yours were ok

I'm doing both of these. Found Napoleon really hard (emperor question) and today's civil war could have been better. My 30 marker was weak but the 70 wasn't too bad.

    How did you find it?

I did civil war too. A lot of people at my college got confused with government- king or parliament? I wrote most about opposition to the king, then thought I had gone wrong, so wrote judgement as oppostion to parliament.

I did King... it was rather confusing. I'm guessing king = government from 1637-40 before he restored parliament?

Don't worry, must've been because they were asking about the personal rule- he only called parliament in 1640 and not for that long. even if u talked abt opposition to the king for source d i think that's right.

NOT GOOD. I have no idea why but in the beginning i had a mini 5 minute freak out and my mind went blank. once i got going the paper was actually alright but cos of that waste of time my part b time suffered a bit. I was still writing my conclusion when they told us to stop, so instead of saying, ' whereas sources c,e and somewhat d suggest that charles' religious policy was the main reason for opposition to the government' i ended up finishing by saying 'and others suggest religion caused it.' :/ I think my part a was alright but i cud've done better, and in hindsight it actually was a good paper and i dont think i took advantage of that
anyway how did u find it? hope it wasn't as traumatic for u as it was for me.

oh and napoleon was awful. i did the first question (obviously) but i ended up doing the thid question abt europe. I kno that almost no one has been taught empire but my class were for a bit. although i didn't revise it- i remembered and wrote abt all the right things- just not sure i wrote it well. If i'd done the emperor question i kno i wud've gone off on a tangent. Did you answer that question? Most people in my school wrote abt consolidating power and that's why he did it and also did a combo of dictatorship and reform points. Hope you did well

WHat was your new interpretation. I was struggling to think of one.

Went with 'Political grievances were the main causes of protest in the early and late 19th century, however, in the middle it was economically orientated'

    I could argue it...but it's a bit wordy.

Similar to me really, I found it quite difficult and my structure wasn't what I wanted it to be. I could find many relevant points about the provenance of the soucres.. Part A just didn't seem there was enough to talk about, but I'm hoping my part B was better!

Yeah, I had to do the emporer, I didn't revise empire at all. I tried to split it in to three sections, but it's really limited in what you can say really Most of it was about consolidating power really. Lets just say not expecting an A in history this year

Re: OCR AS History Exams - 22nd May
well to be honest, i was never expecting an A, hoping, but not expecting. I thought that i might try and resit if i got a B, but now, I'm thinking unless i got worse than C im not gonna resit both, might resit one unit if i got a C to go up to a B. I'm just glad that History isn't actually relevant to what i want to do at uni, so i can afford to not get an A. Anyway, fingers crossed for low grade boundaries!
