    Ionic equation..
    Cl2(g) + H2O(l) ---> HCl (aq) + HClO (aq)

    If you write the ionic equation:

    Cl2 + 2H+ + O2- ---> H+ + Cl- + H+ + Cl+ + O2-

    How do I progress from here?

    I think you need to balance the charges so that the compound is neutral.

    I don't think you can write an ionic equation for it.
