Do you think I can get into KCL?
Hi! I'm planning to apply to uni for 2013 entry and was looking over several prospective universities that I could apply for. At the moment, KCL is my first choice (Law and Hong Kong Law), and was thinking if the current grades + prospective grades I have will do:

    GCSE - 1A, 10B
A Levels - none yet, expecting AAA(B/C) in Economics, Politics, Media and English Lit. I've done Mock Trials twice now [my school got into the regionals but didn't win] and I'm soon to start my 6-week work experience at a barristers firm. I've also done some volunteering at my local museum.

I can't change my GCSE grades now (I know they're insanely poor), but do you think I stand a chance of getting an offer? If not, what do you think I should do to improve?

Any input is helpful, thanks! ^-^

You have to do the LNAT, right? prepare for it well and aim to get as high a mark in it as possible and that will definitely boost your chances. Getting good grades at A Level is more important than good grades at GCSE so focus on trying to get as high as you can in them as I assume AAA are your predicted grades?

Is there any reason you didn't do "well" at GCSE? I didn't do too well either, though my grades were still decent, and I think having good AS grades and A2 predictions boosted my chances.

Um.. I guess because I just didn't really think they were important at the time. But I'm sure I can get AAA (hopefully A*AA) and I've started preparing for the LNAT and I'll properly get ready after my exams are over.

Requirements at A level are A*AAa (A at AS) so you need to get that B/C up!!!

Also...you NEED to drop media or politics next year so if the B/C is in Eng Lit or Econ you might be stuck....

Re: Do you think I can get into KCL?
Either media or politics due to the prestige of kcl - economics, politics and lit are the best bets for getting in as media is likely to be on the 'black list' - I just meant it was unwise to keep BOTH media and politics when applying for such a prestigious uni, as politics is often unfairly looked upon as a dos subject.

I do politics so it's not like I am an A Level snob haha....granted I find it boring as hell but for Law I suppose it is handy.

So English lit is your B/C...that might be a problem. A traditional subject like that really needs be to your A or A* at A2 for KCL

I'm planning on keeping them all + the EPQ. I'm guaranteed an A at AS for Economics and Media Studies, most probably an A for Politics and my exam will decide if I get an A, B or C. But I guess I'll have to wait until August.

What do you mean by this? If anything Law is regarded as one of the most attractive degrees employees are drawn to.

@SweetChilliSauce I'm in the same boat as you! Law is competitive as it is and Kings being a prestigious uni makes it even more competitive to get in. I know this may sound a bit irrelevant but if you can speak Cantonese/Mandarin this may potentially boost your application as languages show your ability to have mutual understanding and insight into the culture which may be useful in your course- I don't know I'm just babbling!

I'm hoping to apply for Politics, Philosophy and Law or French with Law at Kings. I got A*,4A's, 4B's and sadly a C. Does anyone know if I have a good chance of getting in? I'm currently doing Biology AS, French AS, Economics AS, and Eng Lit As. (Going to drop Bio next year) Thanks in advance!

I have an offer for Kings at AAB and your grades are a lot better than mine. I got 3 A*, 2 A's, 3 B's and a C at GCSE, and my AS Grades were BBBD. I did have a fairly strong personal statement and I was predicted AAC when I sent my application off, but I think you should be fine.

Also I'm doing Politics and they didn't seem to mind haha.

To anyone who read my post earlier. Ignore. I'm stupid, I read it wrong.

Any who, it isn't necessarily all about GCSE grades. A lot of unis like the idea of progress, for instance, I only got 5 As and 1 A* at GCSE but got an offer from Bristol. A girl in my class got 9 A* and 4 As, applied for the exact same course at same uni and she didn't get an offer.

So basically if you prove yourself to them, get really great A levels, get the work experience etc, and genuinely seem passionate in your personal statement with great references, you may still have a chance.

But as I said earlier, don't get too hung up on all this stuff, life is so much better if you recognise your limits and play to your strengths.

Woah. Totally just gave myself shivers.
