    SOAS Offer!
Got an unconditional offer from SOAS for Masters in Anthropology of Travel. I have also applied to University of Sheffield and York for MA Cultural Heritage Management. Should I wait for a decision from Sheffield/York or confirm SOAS? I am an international student so would like to have some feedback about SOAS from home students.

I don't know much about SOAS, but I think it has a good reputation.

I also know Sheffield and York are respected institutions as well, so I would wait for them (if you don't have to accept SOAS yet?). This will allow you to have a choice...unless you really want to go to SOAS and want to be studying in London.

I have to reply to SOAS offer by 1st June. So I guess I can afford to wait. SOAS is good, but the cost of living in London is what I am worried about. Thanks

You've got a couple of weeks then...when do you expect to hear back from the others?

I'm also contemplating studying in London from Sept and realise how expensive it is, though if I do, I'll be commuting in....that's also not a cheap option (train & tube)

    Good luck with your decision.

    Great! Well done!

Now you only have one more to go and little over a week to get it in before your SOAS deadline.

    Fingers crossed.

    Even better .

Any closer to deciding with uni you going to choose?

SOAS in the CUG 2013 league tables for UK universities. For anthropology they rated 7th overall in the UK (http://www.thecompleteuniversityguid...s=Anthropology), but you can't compare that directly to the courses you applied for at Sheffield and York, as you applied in different fields of study.

Overall (not subject specific), York is higher up the table than Sheffield, with SOAS just a few places below Sheffield. For measuring the quality of uni's for p/g studies, I would go with the subject specific ratings as opposed to the overall ratings, as it is more relevant.

I have no chance of departmental funding at SOAS, so that is almost out. But I was really impressed with their academic department, they are quick to reply to all the queries! As far the subject-wise university rankings go, York is rated a little better than Sheffield with respect to Archaeology, but I also am getting a little funding from the University of Sheffield. The best I can do now is wait for the final letter from York and drive myself crazy till then!

Congratulations for your offers!! I got an offer from SOAS too, but I also have little hope about funding, so I guess I am going to reject cannot afford London... Even if I like the school so much... Good luck with decision.

I know...London prices are really depressing to look at! Even I had really liked the school and had heard really nice things about it. Good luck with other univs

Its 80% Sheffield right now because there was a problem with my application at the University of York. Apparently my letters of recommendation never reached them or something Had to ask my referees to send them again and I have no idea when the Univ of York will let me know if I am in or not!

Oh no......its going to take longer than expected now. Have you accepted Sheffield yet or do you have some time to consider their offer? If York can't made a decision within that time frame (which seems likely now), then you have to go with Sheffield.

Looks like the decision has been made for you, by the universe, due to this situation.

Hahaha, I am taking this as a sign I have accepted Sheffield's offer. Since I am an international student, I'll need sufficient time to arrange the visa, etc.

One question: What is the best time to make a call to a University Admissions Office in England?
