Dr Oetker Ristorante Pizza - wet puddle?
This is probably one of the strangest questions I've ever asked, but I'm going to go ahead anyway

I recently discovered that my local CostCutter is selling these pizzas for £1.99. which is a pretty good price. However I've bought and cooked two over the past few days, and both of the pizzas have had a watery puddle in the middle after being cooked.

I've been cooking them for the length of time and temperature that it shows on the box, so I was wondering if anyone can explain why this is happening, and if it's happened to them? I really like the pizzas, and have resorted to getting some kitchen towel and mopping up the puddle before eating the pizza.

It happens to me too but I buy them from Tesco. I think it is because I have a dodgy oven lol

Have you chosen the instructions for your oven? Because some boxes have different times for fan assisted/gas ovens, say.

Although I find their pizzas kinda wet and slimey anyway :/

Yeah, I've selected the right type - Gas Mark 6, 13 minutes in the middle. The pizzas turned out alright in the end with the mopping up of the puddle, I guess I'll have to just deal with that.

Why not just cook them so they're not soggy? Might that not be a better idea?

I haven't had these for a while but as far as I can remember I didn't have any problems with them at all. Possibly your oven or cooking instructions, I'm not sure.

The pizza base itself isn't soggy though, it's just I have a weird puddle of water in the middle. If I cooked it for longer, I'd end up with a really hard base and burnt toppings.

Then cook it for longer... but at a slightly lower temperature. Its really not rocket science.

Yeah, try another brand, maybe from the fridge shelves instead of the freezers.
Doctor oatker likes going on about his academic qualifications but the pizzas show how little it means in the real world. :yep:

What an extraordinary name for pizza. Sounds like orthopaedic shoes. Why didn't they call it, I dunno, Uncle Gianni's ?

Your oven might be cooler than average. I always do them for longer anyway or they're soggy. The instructions on pizzas are always wrong.

Also, do you sleep in the wet puddle, or do you make the pizza do it? hahaha

Love these pizzas - They always turn out fine for me

Do you put them directly onto the oven shelf?

They're made in Lancashire and are the top selling frozen pizza in Italy. Dr Smith more like.

Is it mad to suggest putting a small hole in the middle of the pizza with a skewer or something? The water wouldn't pool but would drop through and evaporate in the oven. Although I think it's more likely that it's a pool of oil rather than water.

This has happened to me before, I can't remember which type of pizza though! But I do remember that it was my freezer, it creates icicle sort of thing on the pizza, this then melts and makes a little puddle - so we just scrape off the icy bits off of the pizza Might not be the same problem though
