    Psychology & career opportunities
I am starting a psychology course(3 years full time) in August, this year at my local university. The university offer some specialization elective modules such as criminology, media & communication, clinical psychology, Journalism & Family therapy.

What are the different specializations and career options with studying psychology other than clinical & family psychology?

I wanted to learn more about industrialized psychology, in workplace for e.g.

Recently I have heard about sports psychologist too, can someone explain further about this because sports is one of my passions so I may connect it to the psychology course I will be studying

Now, if I choose the module of media & communication, do I have the opportunity to pursue further studies in film production for example(My other passion)?

Sports, Media & Film production are my passion, so by having studied psychology, can I use this to further studies in those fields?

    Re: Psychology & career opportunities
    Hi,

Sport & exercise psychologists can generally go into two directions (occasionally both, but it is more common to focus on one or the other). Sport psychologists will generally work with sports teams or athletes etc on all aspects of sport psychology - training, visual imagery, mental attitude, competition anxiety, competition preparation, working with athletes who have suffered an injury, working with coaches and managers, etc etc etc.

Exercise psychologists might focus more on the general public, increasing exercise participation, working on increasing motivation to exercise, the psychological benefits of exercising, NHS referral schemes, all sorts of things like that.

As far as I'm aware, it is common for sport psychologists to work in research, teaching and lecturing alongside the practical applications of sport psychology and consultancy work.

I don't know anything at all about media & film production and that area, but I hope that helps a little bit.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, in fact I find the area of sports psychology very interesting in a way as if you are helping all the athletes to prepare them mentally for a huge competition. However, I don't think that in the country I live, there is this domain of sports psychology available.
