I fell on my knee really badly about 1-2 years ago.

Symptoms:
Big Crunch sound when I fell (websites have described it as a pop sound but mine was definitely a crunch)
I couldn't put weight on it immediately
Swollen
Limited motion: I could move it forwards, but not backwards, if I moved it backwards or to the side too much I would get painful spasms in my knee.
I couldn't kneel on it (not because it was painful to kneel, but rather because I felt the lower half of my kneecap moving freely and not taking any weight properly)

I went back to my doctors repeatedly and they said I had just stretched some ligaments in my knee. The estimated recovery time went from 2 weeks, to 1 month, to 6 months to 1 year. They just told me to rest. So I just left it. The pain and swelling went away after a few months. However since then I have always had some laxity in my knee so I went back to the doctors a year and a half after the incident. They referred me to a knee specialist and I am going for an MRI scan next Friday so I should find out, but I can't really stop thinking about how bad the injury is.

Do you think I have fully ruptured my ACL? It's strange because although it hurt for a few months, I have no pain now and I didn't think the pain would go away if the ACL was still torn. I have never really felt my knee 'Giving way' or 'buckling' (except when I kneel on it, but even then if I tense my muscles and use my tendons I can kneel on it fine). I went back to running/sport and without the slight laxity I would have thought my knee was back to being perfectly fine. I only went back to doctors because of the laxity left in my knee.

One thing I am worried about is some of the symptoms I had were very common to knee ligament injuries, also my knee seemed to take a lot longer to 'heal', websites say pain for a few weeks but mine was defintely over a few months. Doctors were suprised at how long it was taking for the pain to go away so they sent me for an X-Ray to see if I had any bone fracture, thankfully it came back as normal.

Can a knee be relativity stable like mine even with a torn acl? or is it likely its not fully ruptured?

Thanks
