    The London Academy Of Excellence
    Hello,
So regarding this new sixth form opening up in London, what is your opinion on it? Do you think applying and going to it would be good because its being sponsered by the leading top 8 independant schools in the country or is it a risk due to it being the first of its kind and the first year of its opening?
Would you rather take a safe bet and go to a college with an already built up reputation?
And if anyone has already been to an assesment day, how'd you find it?

I'd be skeptical of a place that is arrogant enough to call it by that name, considering it is sponsered by the leading 8 IS in the country that gives it some weight behind it.
I think it'd be a good chance on your part to get into a college that could turn out to really really good.
Just looking at their website they sound like ****ing arrogant ****ers .

You know a company means business when all their website photos feature a token non-white person.

Seems they advertise it as a top school that will get Jack and Jill into top universities to do top subjects, no doubt medicine. I mean dear god

Hard Work + Aspiration = Place at a Top University
THAT is their motto? I barely had both and made it in. You spend 2 years aiming at a university place and subject with no doubt an enormous amount of pressure from academics and deep pocketed parents, it's sad that is what it means to be white middle class in england these days. So terribly sad.

im going to agree with DdotT and say they sound an a bunch of incredibly arrogant little shisters but this being said it could be an excellent place of education, id give it a a while to see how it performs before recomending it though it may just be the same old story of a new school being set up boasting to be the dogs dangly bits and turning out to be a spectacular flop, plus id rather just work by ass off and get a scholarship to one of the founding schools (:

5 B's entry requirements is hardly excellence. I think the school is aimed at improving the encouragement and opportunities of those who are talented and from poorer backgrounds, but have yet to reach full potential. You will know if this college is for you, as the alternatives would most likely be inner city vocational colleges.

What about if you aren't excellent? Will there be a London Academy for Average Students?
    If not I'll demand one

Re: The London Academy Of Excellence
Hi, i have already had my assessment day & this is what I have gathered from it.

•The building: 322 Broadway house; the orangey-yellowy stripy building oppsite stratford magistrates court..they would not renovate:just completely upgrade with comps, books, labs &libraries etc->private study really.

•Exam boards: unsure of as of yet, they will get recommendations from the schools which will run the subjects on the best exam boards to use..

    •Uniform: uniform as-like ICHS is to be business-like & proffesional->ties,shirts, trousers,shoes etc..NO TRAINERS:/

•Enrichment to help aid university applications: we MUST recommend what we want & they will try to provide, but there must b a LOT of support for something if we want it.. (if u do go here just look at other colleges i.e newvic and co; as well as other top top colleges etc on their enrichment &extra-cirricular activities to help) && look at economics statements on 'TSR' at what enrichment/activiites others done(y)
->>they dd say that part of the enrichment will 2 go volunterUr/ community service/mentor yungah'z at liek r skl or saink..

    •Form rooms/groups: every1 will hav a form room with a tutor&them other things listed in d prospectus(y) liek a head mistress&house master etc ;classes&form groups will b small= 12-15ppl only..so pupils can do more learning in smaller groups(y)

•Top universities links: when asked he said they have 'extensive links with kings college london' (one of the best in the world&part of the 'golden traingle') -> at open day kings college admissions person was there=interested in dis (y) headteacher also said 'ucl will b makin a campus in stratty so theres links there& we have great links with them' & then went on to say 'they hvee extensive links with oxford & cambridge universities which are continuing to grow'<----jhaazzeee(y) DDDD
(get other ppl from skl 2 ask dis on their interview&get a more extensive answer)

•Teachers: they advertise on the largest teachers job website & they will want the best(y) they will get extensively qualified a-level teachers whu have phD's and have gone to top uni'z,hence y they dnt want to spend money on i.e a gym so they can use that xtra money to get the best possible teachers--->also meantioned that they dnt hav to b teacher bcoz u can teach a 'non teacher' to teach->however they must b very well qualified & hav phD's & must come from a goood goood uni(y)

•Clubs: there will b sports and drama for sure liek sed in prospectus; if there is anything else we want we must say& put forward ... regarded that a lot of ppl back it as well; in some cases the skl may hav to join forces with others to do saink liek trips, matches, gym etc etc..

•Work experience/volunterring: he said there will 'LOTS!!!!!' liek stated in the prospectus..ensure we get a taste of our career path etcc..& anything else we want to do we MUST say for ourselves and we must have a good argument for it if we want them to support us e.g. If we wanna do work experience abraod we must hav a good argument for it & then they will do their best 2 try & accomodate us(y) sounds liveee right? But we have to do research for wat we want and they just provide)))))

•School lessons&day: the school day will last from 8.20am - 4.00pm, and will consist of 6 lessons; each 50mins& watever time is left over will be lunch and break---> 2lessons=break=2lessons= lunch=2lessons=hometime!! some cases skl wnt finish at 4 i.e study supprt & just genral a-level help etc.. But thats just the gist of d day...in addition we MIGHT not b allowed out 4 lunch coz they want us healthy and stimulated for lessons& not lazy and not concentrated bcoz of fatty foods disgested from outside but they hav 2 consider religion and other stuff i.e wat would ppl liek i.e. hot, tasty& varied each day so we wnt feel we hav 2 go out 4 lunch..

•LAE support to top unis; LOTSSS!!! Anything & everything we suggest they would adhere to&try to provide(y)...

•VRT: yes dis does matter, they said it is liek an 'entrance exam/test' dat private schools also havee to pick out the best students:/ there is no way to revise for it as it is common sense to an extent..

•Interview: quitee scary bcoz ur sat in front of two ppl whu have very very priveleged backgroundss->they r posh but they r friendly:/ bear in mind dat u will hav 2 justify wat u say...and also note that you should ALWAYS plan ur answers or u will stutter&just chat ****

•dragons den is not much importance; just a chance for u to be meet other applicantss&engage in group activity .but the winners do get truffles-- > p.s make sure ur sums aka calculations r correct)*

•when they say its an 'academic selective sixth form' they honestly mean that; the lowest grade i heard ppl hav there was a 'B' :O it is academically conpetitive cos 300ppl applied for 150 places..not 180 mate its propa selctive bcoz the skl'z aim is to send more pupils to oxford & cambridge than 75% of private schools within its first 2yrs (this means us!!) <-now dats sounds good&liek i said they do have sikkk links with the top uni'z&provided we get the grades we got a better chance of getting in2 them uni'z dan any other skl from london, just bcoz of the ppl whu r sponsoring / running the skl i.e eton, brigton etc.. yh 90ppl from little ilford applied :/*

•im gonna b honest &say that this is the best opportunity for us coz we get 2 b with like-minded pupils hu r smart& dnt fuk about(y) the headteacher promised dat at the end of the AS year, no1 will get less than a B but they will make more predictions liek this wen they see hu will attend the skl.................... Oh and u see how newvic has pathways with excellent 'enrichment actitives'; if we say to them thats wat we want as well they will do eveything they can to provide for us......coz tbh they r loaded with money coz of rich sklz sponsoring it )

•if we want clubs such as 'debating club' 'chess club' and many many many more..if we can show that pupils want this they will set it up; but everything has to be justified(y)

    • anythig else ur concerned about ask dem at ur assessment day& ask anything u can think of->its build ur knowledge of the skl ur applyin to..*thats more or less it for now(y) unless they anounce more stuff via email& online publications/reports and their website ;D

Yepp i had my assessment day today ~ the interview was deffo the best bit. It was great fun surprisingly and i think i did well, could've said and done alot more though D:. Alot of people from Langdon, Plashet and Kingsford have also applied.

Also the fact that its so promising and the amount of good applicants will make even more upsetting if we were to get rejected. :/

The verbal reasoning test wasnt as difficult as people made it out to be. It was just tricky-mind-playing-stuffs mostly to do with alphabet patterns and confusing questions like "if the day before yesterday was friday, what will the day after the day after tomorrow be?" (it was something of that sort but not exactly) and the main problem was the short space of time, as you had 45 mins for a 100 questions that require a lot of thought.

And yepp as far as i'm away its only students from east London boroughs!

Heya! I agree 100% with whatever you just said, and I just couldn't keep it in, but...
I've been accepted to LAE, and I'm super-excited for the sixth form, this college sounds terrific.
But if you guys didn't get accepted a place, don't worry, it's still the first school of its kind, and there's many other colleges out there.

No it's not just those from East London boroughs.
It's mainly Newham with the other half from anywhere and everywhere else.

I got in and I am not from an East London borough.
