summer and the problems that come with it
So... it's summer. And boiling. My defence of wearing a hoody/jacket has been taken. And there are obvious signs of my depression looming on my skin.

Do you think people care if they see scars? They're not new, I just seem to scar easily, I just don't want people to think I'm still hurting myself. Well actually I'd rather they didn't see them but it's either that or collapse due to the heat. My friends and I want to go to the park but this is making me not want to go out.

They're not completely obvious so if someone noticed I was going to say I walked into a thorn bush? ...Not sure how stable that excuse it. Ugh, even months after it seems I can't escape it.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I understand this is a somewhat pathetic thread.

Go out and enjoy, the sun is actually good for scars. My excuse is I slipped climbing over a barbed wire fence

:hugs: I know this problem well. I covered up for a long time as I was scared of people's reaction but then I thought **** it summer is for me to enjoy myself too, I'm not going to hide for the rest of my life. And really it's one of the better decisions I've made. Ok sure some people stare although I've never been asked about my scars thankfully, but I'm sure you can handle a few stares, it's better than wandering round trying not to pass out from the heat. You have to remember to live your life, ok you went through some **** but I don't think you should allow that to dictate the rest of your life.

Have you tried any creams to fade them? I heard vitamin E helps, also bio oil. I used dermatix which I got from my doctor and it seems to have helped quite a lot.

I can't comment so much on friends, but showing your scars in public is no way a problem. People are so oblivious about such details that they won't even notice. And the ones that do aren't going to stop you in the street and they'll be out of your life after a few seconds, you really don't need to worry about being out in public.

I know its hard but you have to live your life, and enjoy the summer. Screw what people around you think! In the end, what people around you think of you is just meaningless. And true friends won't care if you have scars.

Thanks for the replies I went out, had an awesome day and was only asked a few times. I don't think my best friend totally believed the thorn bush but he didn't persist in asking. No one else noticed, which I guess they wouldn't but it just feels like people are staring sometimes like even if I'm wearing long sleeves, if that makes sense. Will have to try those creams, I've never heard of scar faders...

    Anyway, thanks again!

Remember to put suncream on your arms because scars are particularly prone to burning, although a certain amount of sun is good for them. If you don't want to show your arms all the time get some thin cardigans to wear, that is what I do. You could also try foundation to see if that will cover them up at least partially. Vitamin E is good for scars, so any body lotions with this is good, Palmers Cocoa Butter or Dove Lotion with Vitamin E has been useful for me. You could also try bio-oil, although you have to apply it regularly for a while to notice a difference.
