Hi, my son resat the last module of his AS English Literature with AQA and as he improved his grade presumed the final certificate would reflect the improved grade. However, the lower grade is on the certificate apparently because he went on to study AS2. He only achieved E at AS2 and does not want to use this when applying for jobs. He would rather show an employer a good AS level result. Is this correct, that AQA will not issue a certificate showing the improved grade. I hope this is clear to any readers.

AS is the first year of A levels and I believe AS2 is the second year of A levels, although I may be wrong. Perhaps you can help?

I'm going to assume this:

Your son did his AS exams, and got a bad result.
You recieved a statement of results with this on it.
He has then resat the exam.

If it was only a statement of results, there's no problem. If it was a certificate it's a different matter. Wait until the august results come in and see what is written them.

All he needs to do is to ask the exams officer at his (ex) school to cash-in the AS again. It's free and means that a new certificate with the improved grade will arrive at the school in late October.

Hi the exam staff at his college have said AQA will not issue a revised certificate because he stayed on for year 2 of A levels ~ has the college given me the wrong information ~ because this is very important to him that his certificate reflects the better grade achieved.

If he has retaken a unit since getting a certificate AQA will issue a revised certificate if asked. Whether or not he has taken A2 units since then is completely irrelevant. (I was an exams officer for 8 years; I am right).

Thank you for the advice. I will try again with the exams office at my son's college. Do you know if I can contact AQA direct to arrange a new certificate? as I fear I will not have much success with the college's officious exams organiser!

I'm afraid you can't, but you don't have to do it at the same college. In theory any exam centre could do it, so if you have any links elsewhere they might do it for you, you just need to supply your son's details including his UCI (unique candidate identifier - 12 digits, 1 letter. It should be on his results statements).
