Re: Why was I marked down?
I'm no expert on exam marking but I'll try to answer anyway. If you dropped a single mark, it must've been the final "A1cso" mark, because it is dependent on the previous 4 marks. Hence the examiner must've deemed that you didn't provide a "fully complete proof with no errors and comment". My guess is that you'd've got that mark had you explained clearly in full sentences what you were doing at each stage.

Re: Why was I marked down?Looks right to me, how long did it take to get your paper back?(Original post by richardhamblyn1993)
Hi everyone,
These are photos of my FP1 exam paper.
Question 6a I lost a mark but don't know why? Can someone help me out, I am about retake it in a week... -
Re: Why was I marked down?Ok thanks, that would explain me losing the similar mark(Original post by tommm)

Re: Why was I marked down? You can obviously tell it is Edexcel by the format of the answer paper. That is edexcel style.(Original post by Nick_)
What exam board, the conclusion would not be good enough for edexcel.
OP this person believes they know why you lost the mark -
Re: Why was I marked down?I got it a while back, just assumed the marking was right, was going to use it for revision nearer the retake, ie now.(Original post by Mariah246)

Re: Why was I marked down?My previous comments apply to this one, too.(Original post by richardhamblyn1993)
I know that's what I thought!
But I was also marked down on 7b, which was a similar question...Should I have been?...
I don't know how strict examiners are at this level, but purely from my point of view there's a niggling doubt that you might've just memorised the method for doing this sort of question without really understanding it. However, writing everything in a simple sentence such as "The statement holds for n = 1, and if it holds for n = k then it holds for n = k + 1, hence by induction the statement holds for all positive integers n" would convince me that you completely understand what's going on. -
Re: Why was I marked down?Yea true, but they should mark me on what I put down, not what they think i have memorised. I do understand where you're coming from though. Also, it's in maths notation, do they not prefer it to sentences?(Original post by tommm)

Re: Why was I marked down? You most likely lost the mark because of your conclusion.(Original post by richardhamblyn1993)

I always right:
As the ... has been shown true for n=k+1 assuming it is true for n=k. And has been shown true for n=1 it is therefore true for all blah blah blah...
(Just a guess)
Edit: someone already wrote this :P Never mind
But yeah you should probably write it in a sentence to be safe. -
Re: Why was I marked down?
I agree wit the above replies. In induction questions, k is a defined (but unknown) number that you introduce for the anchor/induction steps of the proof. At the end you need to go back to using n (or whatever letter was in the original question). Writing something like 'Therefore P holds for all n' (where P is the condition you needed to prove) would satisfy this just fine.
