HELP!! Herodotus and the Iliad!!
Hey!!
I was wondering of any of you know where i could get notes on Herodotus Book 8 - the battle of salamis and on Iliad VI?
I need them for the exam in 2 weeks and our teacher's notes aren't great.
They're for the longer questions near the end on stylistic features and stuff.
Any help would be much appreciated

Re: HELP!! Herodotus and the Iliad!!Yep I am(Original post by hines)
Are you doing the Iliad for Ancient Greek GCSE?
I can write some on here if you give me specific lines (obviously not all!).
I'm doing short course Greek so may not have done the same thing but you never know

The lines I'm doing are 369-502 and I wouldn't expect all the lines anyway - I'd be grateful for any help!!
I hope your revision for it is going well - I never even knew a short course existed! -
Re: HELP!! Herodotus and the Iliad!!
Well we've been studying it since start of year 10 (officially, but I joined late), but even now it's a struggle to get things in (still finishing off genetive absolute and middle voice - which I still don't entirely understand!), so I'm amazed that you're doing long course! Luckily we've got a while until the exams.
*Goes and gets Iliad*
So at the start and throughout there are ephiphets (i.e. Hector of the flashing helmet, white-armed Andromache) which just give more description.
There's a long tricolon and use of formula in lines 378 and 385 (repeats the phrases about sister in law, temple of Athena) and the tricolon is lines 375-7
Lines 386-7 the repetition of mega(n) is interesting because it first describes the 'great tower of Troy,' but then describes the great strength of the Greeks (oxymoron).
389 - Simile like a mad woman (mainomenei eikuia) shows how she was in a rush, in passion for Troy
Worryingly, I don't have any more notes from here on, but my teacher is writing them up for the class (and also Aeneid and Germanicus et Piso lines if you're doing Latin) so I could always send them to you if you want them

Re: HELP!! Herodotus and the Iliad!!
Just read the text and read the style points at the same time.. Eventually they'll stick
Same as in latin really. Know the story well for the 8 markers and try to get some good points
10 markers make sure you can quote the Greek and use style points with reasons for why they were used and what effect they give -
Re: HELP!! Herodotus and the Iliad!!
I've got some notes on the Iliad but I wouldn't know how to get the Greek up here
...if it would help you guys, i could put it up on the weekend
but I'm really worried about the prose on Friday
I seriously need notes for sections e, f, h, i and j..... I actually don't have anything -
Re: HELP!! Herodotus and the Iliad!!Line numbers for? (Herodotus...)(Original post by hines)
My only literature is Iliad because I'm doing short course. I'm getting notes from my teacher on Wednesday on it.
You could just put line numbers up? -
Re: HELP!! Herodotus and the Iliad!!For the Iliad - you said you had notes?(Original post by p!atd16)
Line numbers for? (Herodotus...)
Unless it changes from Latin then no? But I looked on past paper and a 10 marker is guaranteed, as well as an 8 marker. Also had the same quantities in mock papers. -
Re: HELP!! Herodotus and the Iliad!!Could you give some examples? I don't really have any notes at all!(Original post by darkducki)
Good to know I'm not the only one worried about Greek prose lit on fri
If it helps, there's quite a lot of juxtaposition all over the shop.
If someone does put a crib sheet together before Friday, I would love you. A lot. -
Re: HELP!! Herodotus and the Iliad!!
Yay greek prose is over
... not loooking forward to the poetry though. My teacher is in love with that text...but I'm not. what a shame.
I liked the 8 marker...it was really similar to the one I did in my mocks, which was helpful. One of the questions which was worth 4 marks was a bit weird though :/
Hopefully the poetry is a nice paper xD -
Do you mean the style one?(Original post by NomNomNom :))
