Re: GMAT or GRE
I think GMAT is supposed to be a bit easier, but it seems you can apply for a lot more things with GRE. GMAT seems mainly targeted at business/management programmes - some of which will only accept GMAT but I think I've seen far more that accept either, or only GRE. What kind of programmes do you have in mind? It should be this that drives your choice. Suggest you look at the websites of the courses you're most interested in and see what most of them want.
Edit: if you type your thread title into Google there are a number of articles on the subject, although most of them seem to be from a US perspective. This one has a pretty comprehensive comparison between the tests: http://www.west.net/~stewart/gmat/gmat_or_gre.htmLast edited by sj27; 26-05-2012 at 10:29. -
Re: GMAT or GREThank you very much for your reply. I am interested for a postgraduate degree in business/ management so I guess GMAT is better?(Original post by sj27)

I have read some articles and other threats for this topic but I haven't found something specific.
I have one more question, I searched for GMAT and I found different websites! Could you please tell me what is the difference between mba.com and gmac.com? -

mba.com claims to be the official GMAT website? But the wiki article seems to imply it is run by GMAC?
Maybe contact one of the unis and ask them which to use?

Re: GMAT or GRE
I've done both and I found the GRE easier on average. The math is a lot more straightforward, even though the material tested is exactly the same as on the GMAT. The GMAT math is just more difficult to dissect and figure out what's being asked.
The verbal for the GMAT and GRE is very different. GMAT tests understanding more, while GRE tests general knowledge. This means GMAT: do you understand what you're reading, GRE: how big is your vocabulary.
My best scores on either test are
GRE: 91% quant, 94% verbal
GMAT: 80% quant, 91% verbal
just so you know I'm not BSing you. -
Re: GMAT or GREAbsolutely agree. I sat only the GMAT, but I've done GRE practice tests. GMAT math is harder whereas GRE verbal is harder if English is not your first language.(Original post by hmmsk)
