Is recruitment a 'bottom of the barrel industry'......?
I seem to be bombarded with recruitment adverts to be a recruitment consultant. I feel that recruitment is just a shyam industry based on bull**** and lies. All these ridiculous claims of like 50k OTE at the expense of selling your soul and morals where often people earn nowhere near that. I know a lot of people just get in and out of it cos its a **** industry to work in. Recruiters just waste your time when they call you and you never hear a peep frmo them again. They all sound the same, say the same things and are generally full of ****. What do you think?

Yeah... But it's here to stay because employers like to outsource as much as possible... Including a lot of the recruitment process.
As employers in their own right they churn staff and won't pay to keep hold of people who know what they're talking about.

Yeh but a lot of the big names don't need to outsource, they let the candidated come to them, its a bit of a dossy industry to me

I went for an interview with a recruitment consultancy firm once. The people running it were so vile, I walked out half way through. Best decision I ever made.

Don't get me wrong, I've worked with a number of people in the recruitment industry and the vast majority of them are wonderful people. It's a whole other kettle of fish with these 'recruitment consultant' jobs though.

I have a 'mate' that works for a recruitment firm. He has been a bull****ter for as long as I have known him from secondary school. I always knew he would end up in recruitment, it's made for people like that.

Perhaps I should elaborate on my idea of the adjective 'lovely'.
They were all friendly, genuinely caring and straightforward people.
They had built up good relationships with the clients I heard/saw them dealing with, and worked extremely hard to recruit all the people they needed.

Depends on the firm, how good you are at it, etc. Top executive head-hunter could be on 6 figures relatively soon in career if work hard, but they are obviously not the standard. It is an industry where all rewards are what you make of it and so can work both ways. Once in recruitment for a long time though it is difficult to do anything else. People only 'look down' on them because it is not skilled in the way of adding value to a company, but acting as a middle-man. But who cares, it is whether you enjoy it and are earning from it!

Anything that has OTE without a waged income to back it up is bottom of the barrel. There are many different grades of "recruitment consultants" though.
