Dropping Out of University. Should i stay or should i go?
Hi, I am a first year student studying BA menswear.
I originally wanted to do Fine Arts as i studied art in college for four years prior, but i ended up do fashion as i got through clearing on a foundation course based on fashion which i accepted.
The course was great, it was drawing clothes that i really enjoyed and at the time i did believe i wanted to design clothes for a living.

But now i am on a BA course studying menswear, i feel like i am being thrown into the deep-end with all the technical work.
I failed my first term, due to my technical skills was not really on point which resulted on my final garment being badly made.
My second term i passed by a margin only because i was "playing it safe".

I also want to drop out because my creativity is way too limited to what i am use to working like.

I have not really been happy during the second term, but i started to really think about it during the Easter break, and i just feel like i do not want to do this anymore.
Now i am on my third term (last term), i stayed just hoping maybe i will change my mind about the course, but i still feel the same.
I really lost my motivation, and i really do not want to work hard for something that i have no passion for and i feel like i am wasting my time here.

I am given the choice to drop out straight way, or finish the term when it ends, what should i do?...

My parents and friends say that i should finish off what i started and i should hang in there, but i personally feel that i cannot continue any longer. The work is way out of interest and for nearly two months now i am way behind on work and i feel like a slug because i have no motivation to work on this course.

Tbh, there's not very much of the term left, anyway, so I reckon you should stick it out til the end of the first year and then use the summer to decide what you want to do with your life.

This is coming from someone who dropped out of uni last summer, btw :yy:

    hey, thanks for the response.
I plan to take the year off, i am a home student, so my parents are supporting me, but i already found a job to support myself too. I want to study Fine Art as my original plan, i booked some summer courses and short courses for this year to next year, to help me build up a current art portfolio.

Well that's good that you have a plan.

You've got this far in the course that I think you owe it to yourself to just see it through to the end of this year. It's not very long and I do think it will give you a sense of fulfillment.

If you have a job lined up then I think you should go for it because it's more than what a lot of people who have graduated university have. Getting a job straight out of uni is a luxury that many people don't have, so I think you should definitely take advantage of that :yy:

Terms almost over, may as well stick it out.
Sometimes, we do change our minds after we've originally thought our first uni choice was "the best idea ever"
I dropped out of my Uni at the end of April.
The course was terrible, and destroying any motivation I had for my chosen subject.
The Uni treated me like a child, and I generally didn't like the place.
I only stayed most the year for the social reasons.

Which i then realised was ALSO A STUPID IDEA.
