    Suggestion: LGBT forum
Hi, iv just been looking through the site to see if there is a LGBT fourm and I cant find one which I found odd, so I think there should be a LGBT forum somewhere in the forums area.

There are a number of large dedicated threads in the Relationships forum http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=89 which is also the suitable forum for many related threads. While I'm not especially close to the Relationships forum myself, I'm not sure that there would be a great benefit from segregating LGBT threads specifically.

Ye but these are all mixed in with other things, there isnt a section just for LGBT, its just sometimes I like to go through threads and help out other LGBT people that are having trouble with things.

This was suggested a number of months ago (and probably before then). I still wouldn't support such a forum :dontknow:

Why wouldnt you support a forum for this. It would help organise everything. At the moment all the LGBT stuff is all mixed in with everything else, depending on your situation you put LGBT stuff in each sub-section of the relationships forum, you can put it in the Society forum, you could put it in chat, and its just all over the place, where a LGBT forum would organise it so thats its all in one place, then someone like me who likes to help out other LGBT people can just browse through all the LGBT threads at the same time and help out with any problems.
I just dont see why there isnt one already, I think every other forum on the internet has a LGBT forum apart from this forum which is one of the more popular ones, so if it popular make it for available for people.

I mentioned why in the thread I linked to. I don't think segregating the forums based on sexuality is either needed or desirable, much in the same way I don't think it's wise to do it on grounds of gender, race or religion either. Yes, there are several forums each with their own specific purpose - I think the kind you're referring to fit into the relationships/romantic relationships forums.

I can't see why one is needed, there is nowhere on TSR where LGBT threads aren't welcome or don't fit into already. If you're having trouble finding LGBT threads then the search function will help

Ye I use the search function, but that comes up with every post that has the word gay in it or LGBT, and as a lot of people still use gay as an insult or the phrase "thats gay" I get a lot of unwanted posts.
I do understand what you are saying and to a degree I do agree with you, but I still feel there should be one, or at least better search options to filter for the kind of posts I was, or a filter option the only searched the starting thread instead of every thread of every forum.

    Try this: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/search.php

You can filter the search by thread started or every post and for any specific forum, then by date/relevancy etc :yep:

That still doesnt work as that only gives you the option to search the Title of the origional post, not the Title and the description of it. If you search the title it only finds posts that are several years old.

I'm not sure you're using it quite correctly. Lets say I wanted to find all the threads with the word gay in the opening post in the relationships forum (and sub forums) in the last month...

gay as keyword (search entire posts)
    threads started by user
find posts from ''a month'' and ''newer''
select the relationships forum from the list
leave ''also search in child forums'' ticked

    This gives you a page
    Code:
    http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/search.php?query=gay&sortby=score+desc&filter[forumid]=(89+OR+657+OR+658+OR+599+OR+755)&filter[date]=[NOW-720HOUR TO *]&filter[postid]=0
you can then filter these results by forum, relevancy, date and title
