    Do toenails serve any purpose?
I can see why fingernails are useful. They come in handy when you need to peel stuff or do a scratchcard but when have toenails ever come in handy? And were they ever useful in the olden days?

Not entirely sure but I can tell you that evolution/ creation by God (whatever floats your boat) did not have scratch cards in mind when designing our fingernails...

Can be good if have a heel/lower limb itch whilst in bed.

You seen the film my left foot? He'd need his toenail for the scratchcard situation you talk of :holmes:

Yes, they do. They are there so we can paint them and show them around whenever we wear flip flops and the like

Not hugely. They're frequently removed with no ill consequence.

Perhaps when we were more hunter gatherers and we didn't have shoes to protect the feet it acted as protection against rocks or sticks or whatever. Me no know

Good point. Great for doing the back of the leg/calf muscle

If you let them grow long, thick and coarse, and then filed them into a point, you could use them as a useful kicking weapon, impaling any unsuspecting prey.

Bear in mind that in the past peoples feet and toenails were shaped drastically differently from walking around bare foot all the time rather than having toes squashed together in socks and shoes.

That's not just for the fun of it, it's performed when having them also presents problems. For example, I damaged a toenail many years ago and it had been in-growing ever since, causing a lot of pain and frequent infections. Then it was injured again, completely ripped off (painful in itself, by the way) ... but has grown back normally. :lolwut:
