    LGBT Society at Surrey Uni
    Hi all,

It looks likely that I will be coming to the University of Surrey to do my PhD in October. I decided to take a year out so I didn't completely lose touch with reality.

I just wanted to know how active the LGBT society was at Surrey? I found their website and also located their new Facebook page but neither showed signs of great activity.

I must say the campus looks beautiful and my prospective supervisor seems lovely too so this isn't anywhere near a be all and end all situation. I was just curious, if you'll pardon the pun.

    Many thanks,

    Alex

A year ago when I was still there, they were quite active, weekly social 'meetings' and every two weeks on Saturday is Tease in Rubix which is a 'club night' run by the LGBT society. Obviously the people will be different from two years ago (when you arrive) but hopefully that has continued. Don't let the lack of activity on their Facebook page worry you.

They do still run regular meetings, they're just not overly tech-savvy I think.

^ What he said. They still do meet for weekly meetings, which is basically just a space to chat. I personally didn't like it too much because when I went along (week 2 of uni this academic year) there was already close groups and unless you're very good at mingling then it felt like I was just talking to my friend who I went with.
Dunno, you may find it different.

They don't do any special socials that I know of, it's really only Tease (which is now every month) which a lot of the society go to.

Thanks very much for your responses they have been very helpful. Looks like the Uni has a good student union generally with a wide variety of societies. I am very excited
