Going onto college, Best choice of course for me
    Hello all.

I'm going to college in a couple of months after finishing my GCSE's and i'm very worried about my choices since everyone says A levels are hard and the exams are difficult and I dont do well in exams but I always think im going to fail although I love doing academic subjects I dont want to keep retaking college.

So what would be the best choice for me? BTEC or A Level?

I'm not taking BTECS for an easy way out because if I was to take BTEC and 1 A level I would cope fine its only because I would have less exams to worry about and I would have the confidence I have something to fall back on.

I hope you can help me i'm very worried about my choices for college.

    Thankyou.

Everyone over exaggerates the difficulty of A levels. Yes the exams are stressful. A-levels are much more sought after than Btecs. In my opinion take A-levels and definitely take subjects you both enjoy and are going to push you. I'm personally loving A-levels and although I only got 9Bs at GCSE I'm predicted ABB in maths, biology and geography.

If you doubt yourself for one minute, e.g. Your struggling in a particular subject my only advice is to get a tutor.

I have friends who decided to take Btecs and they all seem to be enjoying themselves.

In my opinion take A-levels, but depending on what you want to do (E.g. University, apprenticeship or straight into work) you should use to help structure your choices as depending on what it is, one or the other may be Prefered by future employers.

Thanks for all the replies I was going to choose Biology, History and something sifferent such as Law. University would be the next step after A Levels. Also I heared that a lot of Universites accept BTECS? is this true? I didn't think that would be the case since its all coursework and BTECs give a lot of UCAS points ( BTEC level 3 extended gives around 360-420) which is a lot for University entries if this was the case and say i got BBB which if i'm sure is less UCAS points and we went for the same course would they choose the person with the BTEC?

Yes, they do accept them. But depending upon where you want to go to university and what course you want to take they will have more/less weight respectively.

I had a look on some university websites e.g. York and you need DDD in applied science (more than willing to give it all my effort for D*D*D*) and one a level which is also fine. (this is for BSc in Biology) or I would have to take 3 a levels in Biology and one in either Chemistry, Maths or Phycology and an extra level excluding General Studies.

I have a BB in Double Science which would get me in for A level Biology but students with A/A* in GCSE Biology have only managed to scrape a C/B and I think if I take it i'll up with a D/C and not get into University. This is very worrying and I dont have long left to decide and I really want to be a Science Teacher (Kinda my dream job yes its sad I know ) and a Biology Degree will get me there or help me anyway.

    What should I Do?

I got the same as you in science, I got BBB and after taking biology Ive now got a solid A so don't doubt yourself so much, you can do it if you try.
