What do you think about the sexualization of society ?
In England as well as in other countries.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexualization
It has been described as the act or process of sexualizing. It refers to the making of a person, group or thing to be seen as sexual in nature[1] or a person to become aware of sexuality. It can also refer to the making of an interpersonal relationship into a sexual relationship. It has also been used to describe the broad set of ways in which sex has become more visible in media and culture, as a subject of discussion and representation. -
Re: What do you think about the sexualization of society ?
On the whole it's ok I guess, the only downside is the negative self body image people seem to have of themselves, often when they aren't even fat/thin/ugly whatever. However, getting people to care more about their appearance and fitness can't be bad.

Re: What do you think about the sexualization of society ?
I personally think it's somewhat of a double edged sword.
On the one hand it's taking away a child's innocence and time as a child, leading to a more fractured view on sex when they are older.
But on the other it's helping us to have more mature views about sex and being able to talk about it, enjoy it and what not without having any shame attached. -
Re: What do you think about the sexualization of society ?
Surely you mean desexualisation?
We're still far more uptight and repressed about sex than we've been since the ****ing christians arrived and ruined everything 1900 years ago. Its still seen as something dirty and degrading, rather than an important part of any happy and healthy society. We still have a long way to go to get over our immature attitude towards our own sexuality. -
Re: What do you think about the sexualization of society ?
Society hasn't been fully sexualised. The current 'sexualisation' is an explosion of hyper sexuality as a result of the deeply held Victorian values that sex is inherently taboo. Sex is naught y so it sells. The lid has only started to come off and it needs time for people, especially young people, to come to terms with sex. Hopefully it'll mean more young people become comfortable with their bodies but I haven't fully thought through the connection. Sex is portrayed as a models pursuit as its deemed naughty, sultry, closeted and almost mystical for a lot of young people. A thing beautiful people do. And perhaps if society becomes more comfortable with sex, attitudes will change and people wouldnt feel the need to dress like an orange in blusher and a thong to get it. (there's nothing wrong with dressing like that, only people who dress like that often do it out insecurity and socially imposed ideals) or feel the need to turn sex into a game of egos.

Re: What do you think about the sexualization of society ?I would agree, only from my experience people still don't have particularly mature views on, or discussion of, sex - puerile jokes and childish comments seem to still prevail in sex discussion...(Original post by Dand218)

Re: What do you think about the sexualization of society ?I disagree though in hindsight it may because I'm a bit older now (mature student and all that.... but not mature okay!) that most of my friends are pretty mature about it. That and I've just done pre-med as one of the youngest on the course (hopefully going to do med at Glasgow) so by it's very nature I might meet folk that have more grown up views about sex because we have to spend time studying it.(Original post by KingMessi)

Re: What do you think about the sexualization of society ?Perhaps that's the case for you; obviously people's experiences do vary. I left school last year, and still I find my peers to be very childish when discussing sex. It's not even that though; a good number of comedy programmes both here and in America are predicated largely on sex-related jokes that really do little to detract from the idea that sex is taboo.(Original post by Dand218)

Re: What do you think about the sexualization of society ?This is true. Well I can tell you it does get better. slowly but surely people stop acting so dumb. Or maybe they don't and I've just lost touch with these people.(Original post by KingMessi)

Either way it's like the old mj song says you wanna change something then you have to start with "the man in the mirror" -
Re: What do you think about the sexualization of society ?This. I think I remember hearing once that 120 million people a day have sex, and that number was some years ago. It's also the basis of so many programs, even for teens/young adults - all of which serves to cause a very flawed perspective towards sex.(Original post by sarahthegemini)
It pisses me off that sex is used in pretty much every single advert on TV. Sex isn't that big of a deal! It doesn't need to be shoved in our faces 24/7. -
Re: What do you think about the sexualization of society ?I hope so. It is rather frustrating. We're not thirteen years old surreptitiously looking through books in the library to find sex references any more.(Original post by Dand218)
