Re: OCR GCSE English Literature ~ Literary heritage prose & poetry - May 24 2012Ah thank God!(Original post by g07hg1)
we're doing Armitage, 5 poems come up each year but only one is printed on the question paper, but we have poetry books we can take in as long as they're not annotated
really scared for this exam!
I was almost panicking that I had to memorise quotations and such.
Me too but I have 2 chemistry papers in the morning so I'm just focusing on that for now. Argh I'm not even going to bother preparing each poem in detail, I'll focus on a few and make sure I understand the rest.
I'm doing Lord of the Flies and Carol Ann Duffy.

I've got C7 at 9.00 but still managed to prepare for this somehow. Based on how Modern Drama went I need to do well this time.
We're doing Jekyll and Hyde and Gillian Clarke, neither of which are done very much, I hope I have someone to discuss the questions with later.
I want On the Train or Cold Knap Lake for the poems, or at least The Field Mouse.
Good luck everyone. -

Please could someone tell me how to structure the answers for Jekyll and the unseen poem? Has anyone got a or a* in the other two exams and could explain to me what they did and how they structured the extract based questions to get higher marks? Thanks and good luck all.

Re: OCR GCSE English Literature ~ Literary heritage prose & poetry - May 24 2012When talking about the structure for jekyll and hyde keep in mind the key themes. (Eg. Things aren't what they seem, duality) And think about why does stevenson describe where hyde lives before the reader actually meets hyde? (As tthe old house that thrusts its self forward with tramps etc outside, it doesnt belong. This is structured like that to give the reader constant stuble hints as to whats to come/ introduce key themes.) Also why does stevenson introduce the reader to utterson first and not jekyll/hyde as theyre the main character? Its t introduce the theme of duality and gently give the reader that idea. The fact EVERYONE has two sides. A reputable one that is shown and one that we supress. Utterson enjoys thearte but has supressed his desire to go for years.(Original post by kaquash)

Re: OCR GCSE English Literature ~ Literary heritage prose & poetry - May 24 2012
Hi guys, just come home from this exam!
It was horrible - the lord of the flies questions were hard, so I chose the extract. There wasn't enough to write about once you'd talked about the beast and evil, foreshadowing simon's death, and how it was made frightening by his descriptions etc.
I also did Gillian Clarke - the poems were the worst ones. We hadn't learnt all of them in class, so I could only do Marged. I hate Marged!!!!!!! There wasn't enough to write about and I had piles of time left at the end.
On a positive note, no more english literature GCSE!!!!!
How did you guys find it? -
Re: OCR GCSE English Literature ~ Literary heritage prose & poetry - May 24 2012
I was really happy with this, hopefully my happiness is justified and I'll come out with a good mark

We did Jekyll and Hyde, and the extract was quite good, I hadn't read it in weeks despite reading most of the novel, but there was enough in there to write about as it was a long extract.
We did Gillian Clarke too, I quite like Marged, there isn't that much to talk about but I think I did well, at least up until halfway where I could feel the quality of my essay slipping, but overall I think it was good.
This is the exam with the lowest grade boundaries
Hopefully I can get a good UMS score to make up for the failure that was Modern Drama.

Re: OCR GCSE English Literature ~ Literary heritage prose & poetry - May 24 2012
Awful! I did jekyll and hyrde and the extract they chose nothing "suprising " or "interesting" happend until the end of the extract! Ive no idea how they expected 50 odd minutes worth of writing from that. So i was forced into chosing the general question which im not so good at :/
For poetry i did duffy which was okay i guess. But then again stupid questions -
Re: OCR GCSE English Literature ~ Literary heritage prose & poetry - May 24 2012
i did jeykll and Hyde and I chose the extract question because I thought it was really good and there was loads to write about. Also, I did Seamus Heaney and I wrote about digging but the choice was pretty good!!! I am really pleased with the exam.

Re: OCR GCSE English Literature ~ Literary heritage prose & poetry - May 24 2012Argh I know! I did the extract as well but the only thing I could find in the extract that was 'revealing' was the fact that the Beast is within?(Original post by jo7777)

For the rest of the essay I just had to talk about frightening stuff but even then there wasn't much to talk about for things like structure.
The extract was really annoying. xD But I didn't even glance at the novel question because I know I wouldn't be prepared! -
Re: OCR GCSE English Literature ~ Literary heritage prose & poetry - May 24 2012I did the Unseen poem as well. I thought it was alright, there were things to talk about but personally I didn't find it very inspiring, a bit boring to be honest... how did you find it?(Original post by Zahirajavaid)
Did anyone do the unseen?
This was posted from The Student Room's iPhone/iPad App
Did anyone here do Lord Of The Flies? Loads of people in my class did the extract question but I did the open... :/
PS. first time I've used this site XD
really scared for this exam!
