I reckon hardest one to name is esters. But its easy when you know how: name the alcohol part first and the acid part second. The "alcohol part" is bonded to the O and the acid is bonded to the C=O. Example, methyl propanoate, "methyl" from O-CH3 and "propanoate" from CH3CH2C=O.

Hope you understand that cause i just read it back and i dont.

Alkene--- Alkane, H2, Ni catalyst, 150oC, high pressure
Alkene----bromoalkane, HBr, 20oC
Alkene------ polyalkene, free radical polymerisation
Alkene----- dibromoalkane, Br2, 20oC
Alkene----- Alcohol, Steam, 300oC, H3PO4 catalyst
Alcohol---- alkene, Al2O3 at 400oC
Alcohol---- chloroalkane, shake with conc. HCl at room temp (tertiary alcohols only)
Chloroalkane----- alcohol, reflux with aqueous NaOH
Chloroalkane---- amine, reflux with excess NH3 in ethanol solvent

The alcohols one you need to know but they're easy.

Thanks so much! Have you got the f335 Jan 12 as well?

If not, no worries.

Thanks again

When hydrolysing polymers with ester links, how should you know when to use concentrated sulfric acid or aqeous acid ? Some mark schemes sometimes want one of the 2 only :s-smilie:

has anyone got any predictions on what could come up?
I haven't seen any biology questions (DNA, transcription translation) questions for a while?
