    S2, M1 or D1 !??!?!
I have the choice between S2, M1 or D1 next year with A2 maths and am not too sure which one to take, I'm not the biggest lover of any science so i am ruling out M1 as it is like physics but am just not sure which one between S2 and D1? if someone could help that would be great thanks a lot!

S2 would be more useful unless you're planning on going down the line of computing. D1 is essentially the mathematics of optimising various processes and is highly applicable in designing computer software. S2, however, is more widely useful, plus it will be more familiar. D1 is a nice easy module which you can choose to prop up grades but S2 would be generally more useful unless you perform poorly in statistics.

well i had S1 last week and i thought as if the exam went really well to be honest? I'm hoping anyway! i don't mind statistics, i want to do economics at university thats for sure but i don't know if either of them will help more significantly than the other? So D1 is easier?

I haven't done D1, so don't know much about it.

M1 is a very interesting module, i wasn't doing physics at the time i took it.
S2 is a very dull and boring module, while is also very easy.

The choice is up to you, if you just want to do easy and boring maths then go for S2 or D1 while if you are looking forward to interesting maths then go for M1.

M1 takes more time to prepare, S2 can be mastered in a week while M1 will require at atleast 2 weeks.

I feel that it is easier to score well on M1 then S2, may be it is just me who thinks this way.

D1 is easy lesson wise, but the exam is ridiculous (I did OCR), some of the questions are difficult to understand, and there is loads of work to do in an hour and a half. But then the grade boundaries are quite low. I found it quite tedious, so wouldn't really recommend.

If you want to do Economics then S2 is a no-brainer, especially if you did well in S1. D1 is an easy module but not hugely worth doing for an Economics degree if you can perform as well in stats anyway. The module choice may highly depend on which university you go to though - some may not even know which module you take, in which case the one you're more liable to score more highly in.

My advice would be to borrow a D1 textbook and look through it over half-term; it's difficult to make a fair conclusion on something without trying it.

D1 is much easier than s2, probably why it only counts as an AS. But you should still definitely take s2 if you want to do Economics at uni. S2 can count towards your furthermaths a* if that's what you're doing. If not, you may want to consider it!

thanks guys really helpful advice there! S2 seems like the right choice for me then, i really do find s1 easy to be honest its just plugging numbers in to equations and formulas, i looked at some D1 stuff from a couple mates it looks pretty easy but everyone said the exam was ridiculous so i may just stick with S2 then! If any of you are looking to do economics at uni or are doing it and can tell me if you are that'd be great also, thanks!

On Edexcel imo S2 is even easier than S1. So, I'd recommend S2.

    S2 requires S1 knowledge, so i can't say that S2 is easier than S1.

In S1 probability can be sometimes challenging, while in S2 hypothesis testing takes some time to understand.

Though, i do believe that the S2 exam in this session was more tougher than the S1 exam, there were some unusual questions in it.

i would personally advice against M1 ( i found it interesting throughout the year) but i just completely mucked up the M1 paper which i had today and i dont ever want to see any mechanics again

That is because YOU mucked it up, this doesn't applies to everyone.

I have done 10 modules of maths and my best performance was in M1.

ahh yeah some of my friends had it today! i will probably stick with S2 then i had a look at some of the s2 stuff online it was to do with something called poisson and testing if things are correct are not, i will look into it, just want my bloody results back haha! thanks a lot!

I haven't done S2 or D1 but I feel M1 was pretty easy going compared to the core modules and statistics (S1).

I've done D1 for Edexcel, and I just took my exam for it. I found it quite simple and nice, you just need to understand it once and you'll never forget it (: lots of practice needed, as is true for all kinds of Maths. I liked it! I haven't done either S2 or M1, so I can't really tell you about those two.

I'd advise doing the one that would be most helpful to you.

M1 is pretty interesting and involves more algebra than the other two and its fairly easy.

D1 isn't interesting at all, if you can be bothered learning it though, the exam is the easiest Maths module IMO (c1 runs it close)

Stats, pretty interesting too, harder than the other two no doubt but probably most useful.

I don't really agree with you regarding stats, i don't see it interesting at all. M1 is a lot more interesting than it.

In S1 there isn't a single thing that interested me, in S2 hypothesis testing was a bit more interesting than the other chapters but overall i found it as a dull module.

How is stats harder than M1 is beyond my belief, in S2 100UMS can be achieved by self-studying it for a week, while M1 will require at least 2 weeks to self-study to full UMS level.

Well he's talking about S2 first of all and I thought it was more challenging than m1 and therefore more interesting too, m1 is too easy because its too similar to mechanics module in physics.

I managed to teach myself S2 this year, and i am not particularly smart, i probably got a C in the exam although should have got better. S2 is fairly straightforward and there is not much variation in the questions they ask you.
