Which clubs and societies are preferred among finance employers?
Hello,
I am going into my second year of university in September 2012 and I have not joined a club or society yet. I am wondering are there any particular societies which are looked upon favourably by employers? I am currently thinking of ways to improve my chances of getting on a graduate scheme.
I am planning on joining the airsoft society next year for my own enjoyment. But I want to join another society that recruiters will look favourably upon. In my first year I attended various employability and skill training sessions. As well as having a part-time job. -

Contrary to the above I think societies can provide a wealth of experience to talk about in interviews. Well worth joining. Have a look at some of the business based societies. I would recommend SIFE, they're in practically every uni, are sponsored by a lot of big employers and give you some practical experience. I used examples from my time at SIFE when securing my role in finance.

I'm a member of my uni's Bright Futures society. Many unis have one as it stems from a national organisation, you can check if yours does too. It's a society that's purposefully built to offer workshops, events, trips etc. with employers mainly in the business/finance and law world.
