Re: Shoutbox bot improvementIt's not something that is currently possible, but may be something that could be done if there was a need for it and it was deemed important enough.(Original post by The_Last_Melon)
Can you give the bot the power to temporarily mute people who swear?
What was your thinking behind this idea? What prompted you to suggest it?

Re: Shoutbox bot improvementI just think it would clean up the box as there are times where it descends into childish personal attacks. Also I can't find a reason against it. I suppose it defeats the idea of having a "shoutbox", but maybe that could be renamed too.(Original post by RK)

Re: Shoutbox bot improvementWould this go against the rule that swearing is allowed in the back room though?(Original post by The_Last_Melon)

Re: Shoutbox bot improvementYes, it would. It'd also be difficult to program AI to accurately determine when someone was resorting to childish insults. It's not like we could just set something up that bans people from saying "**** off" or something, because while "Why don't you just **** off, rmhumphries?" would be an insult (or has a good chance at being, anyway - depending on context, there's a small chance it could potentially be fine), "Why won't my dog just **** off and leave me alone for two seconds?" would be totally fine. Even if something was programmed that could determine when a comment was intended as an insult, it doesn't mean that the user is directing the comment at someone else - they could be quoting something from a film or a youtube video or something...so really, it's not something that's particularly suitable for an automated process, in my eyes(Original post by rmhumphries)
