    Freedom or security?
Given the whole thing about CCTV, piracy laws, e-mail monitoring and the like it seems more and more of our freedoms are being taken away in the name of security.

So here are my questions to you TSR
Have we gone too far and given up too many freedom for security?
If not then when will we have?
If we have what point did we cross that line?
If the need for safety passes do you think the government will return us our freedoms?
If not what do you think we should do?

Government takes away your freedom and says it is for your security. People lap this kind of thing up and generally follow blindly

    e.g

    Gun laws
    Drug laws

Both freedoms have been largely taken away (not completely) from UK citizens under the guise of "safety" yet they have done nothing for the safety of UK citizens. They have arguably done the opposite.

Of course we have given up too many freedoms and its all downhill from here. People dont understand that the more you give, the more they will take. Maybe it doesnt effect you today but in the future its only going to get worse. Too many people have the "I have nothing to hide" attitude.

I dont know how much you can do other than voting for people who respect your freedom and liberty.

As I'm training to become a doctor I quite agree with your statement regarding drug laws.
I seriously don't understand the drug laws.
Thing like MDMA , pot, LSD and mushrooms are illegal. Drugs which are shown to have very little physical damage and no physically addictive properties to them. Yet booze and ciggies aren't . Tobacco has been shown to be one of the most addictive drugs out there.

The thing is I do know why they are legal and the others are illegal and it makes me wanna cry.

They overlap each other overwhelmingly, but I'd say freedom although it isn't as widespread as security because you cannot do anything you please without facing the consequences.

The government through many instruments including the mainstream media has made this country a template for authoritarian rule if it was ever to arise. The threat of 'terrorism' means people can be detained for for a long period of time without charge, CCTV is everywhere, the DNA from innocent people is detained in databases and you can be arrested for freedom of speech under public disorder laws.

People seem to have forgotten that we should not be afraid of the government, the government should be afraid off us. However, we have those people called the police, who once wearing the uniform think they can attack innocent protesters. They need to be reminded that they're out there to protect the public; rather than look like they're about to invade Poland.
