Is there any draw back to using a cheaper alternative of protein powders etc?

It cost £16 from a small supplement shop near me, they do all sorts of other crap, creatine and shiz, fish oils multi-vitamins etc.

    The ingredients are:
Protein Blend (whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate, soya protein isolate),
    Lactose,
    Maltodextrin,
    Creatine Ethyl Ester,
    Guar Gum,
    L-Glutamine,
    Tri-Calcium Phosphate,
    Xanthan Gum,
    Cocoa Powder,
    Sweetner (Aspartame),
    Flavourings.

    Nutritonal Info:

Could this be considered as un-healthy or less beneficial compared to some of the more expensive protein powders?

Unless you are an elite level athlete - No.

Most supplements are bulked out with a long list of ingredients most of which have little or no efficacy. It gives you the illusion that you are buying something better so that you spend more of your hard earned cash and they make more profit.

This is what I've been using for the past few months
Even that is bulked out with ineffective ingredients. If you switched over to whey concentrate and creatine monohydrate you would make much the same, if not the same, progress (and you'd save significantly more money in the process).

Whey isolate - Is it significantly better than concentrate? No, it contains fractionally more protein and fractionally less fat and lactose. Is it worth 25-50% more? No.

CEE - benefits over creatine monohydrate? Questionable.

Maltodextrin - cheap carbohydrate powder used to bulk out supplements.

Guar gum, Xanthan gum - binding/thickening agents.

so basically, for £16, its a decent supplement?

I just don't want to be wasting my money thinking I'm getting the same (ish) benefits, if in actuality, I'm greatly reducing my possible progress.

It's just a mate of mine told me its **** basically, and I didn't take it at face value (didn't particularly trust him, he likes to sound like he knows it all) so I wanted another opinion (and what a place, to be able to get multiple different opinions)

Not for less than 1kg. Wouldn't bother.

Check out MyProtein (as mentioned) or MaxiRaw.

You can use MP40658 for 5% off or whoever else's code you wanna use from the supplements and codes sticky.
