will they do a crb check?
So I am studying for a degree in 'education' this is not a primary teaching degree, but a degree which teaches modules such as the history of education, the philosophy of education and the sociology of education. It is therefore not teacher training and doesn't give me a teaching degree in the end, it is just a standard degree. I've almost finished my first year and next year we have to pick an 'educational placement' for 2 weeks. Will they do a CRB check for this? As I have a spent conviction for drug possession. I'm so worried if they find out they'll kick me off the course, what should I do?

If you're around children, yes. Was it major, or was it weed?

As long as you haven't lied about your conviction I don't think they can kick you off the course but it might affect where you can do your placement.

If it isn't children or dependents and it's a regular CRB check your spent conviction won't show up, if it's enhanced it will. My girlfriend needed one for her college placement and has had about five this year for work, they'll probably charge you for the privilege aswell! :P

Its for possession of class A (ecstacy) and B (mephadrone) however it is just a spent conviction luckily. The placement is going to be with children, I think you can pick a museum/school etc

With children it'll be an enhanced check and spent convictions will show up. Though I think they're more looking for violent and sexual criminals more than anything else.

I recieved a police caution 2 years ago and i've had 2 enhanced CRBS done since then and it's never showed up so does this mean it won't ever show up? Am quite worried as the uni course i would like to do requires a crb check and am scared it might just pop up?

I have a lot of experience with CRBs and...

Michelle - be honest with them, if you dont declare something then that is much worse than declaring it and letting them decide.

Wrenage - if you work with children or vulnerable adults then yes you will need an enhance CRB check. Your conviction will show up no matter how long ago it was. Best you can do is be honest. In my opinion it will be down to the management of where every you are planning to go, and to be brutally honest I think you would be lucky to get somewhere that has under 18s to give you a chance. A conviction is a conviction doesnt really matter what it is for, but yes granted it is not a violent/sex offence but A and B drugs is still pretty serious. Can you not do a placement at a college or somewhere that you wouldnt need an enhanced CRB?
