Walsall Accomodation. Is it worth it?
I am going to Wolverhampton University in September 2013 to study Adult Nursing. I will obviously be on the Walsall campus.
The thing that is bugging me is whether I should stay on campus?
I live in Walsall anyway (10 mins bus ride away from uni/hospital etc). I will have to pay £25 to my parents to stay at home. And everything is included in this (TV, food, electricity etc).
If I stay on campus I will paying over £3000 on accomodation (I would stay in En-Suite). and then I would have to buy EVERYTHING i.e. food, laundry detergent, TV license, travel etc.
I don't know if it is worth it. 99% of my friends are staying on campus at their universities and are telling me that I am missing out. I don't know what to do. No matter which choice I make I know I will regret it. If I stay at home I will regret it because I will keep thinking, 'Im missing out', and if I stay on campus I will regret it because it will cost a fortune.
Once I have completed my adult nursing I will be studying Midwifery for 18 months and then Neonatal care for 12 months, so I could potentially stay on campus for those. I am thinking about here and now. What would you do?
I will only be getting around £6000 and if I am paying over £3000 on accomodation and then I have to buy everything I am looking at around £4000 a year just to live on campus. This would leave me with about £38 a week :/
Am I missing something?
The accomodation HAS to be En-Suite because I cannot share toilets, showers, baths etc, I just find it gross :/

Re: Walsall Accomodation. Is it worth it?
I'm currently doing midwifery and living in the walsall campus accommodation. I wouldn't really recommend it, especially if you live so close anyway. Although most of your friends are living away from home, you will find that this university is very different in that sense. The majority of students at wolverhampton DON'T live on campus as a lot are local so stay at home. The majority of the people on your course will NOT be living on campus and are likely to be living at home. You certainly don't miss out on student life and experience by staying on campus.
Also, it's often very noisy in halls and this is a big problem when you have placement the next day. -

Re: Walsall Accomodation. Is it worth it?Yes, you can. Go to finance office during your first week (it's where reception, security and the mailboxes are) and ask if you can change it to monthly. I do mine monthly and prefer it.(Original post by Kay1804)

Did you have to pay for the 52 week licence even though the course is 45 weeks?(Original post by CatRox)

Re: Walsall Accomodation. Is it worth it?Yes because you will still have the room for the 7 weeks that you're on holiday and it will have all your stuff in it. Because remember, those 7 weeks aren't just summer. It's 2 weeks at Christmas (so you'll be coming back after and will want to have your stuff in your room still), 2 weeks at Easter (the same again), and then 3 weeks in the summer, but this might not be at the end of summer. It might be, for example, 3 weeks in July, and you'll be coming back after that until September, so you'd want to have your room during that time too.(Original post by Kay1804)

Wolverhampton typically has a lot of mature students, because it often draws in a lot of local students who also happen to be mature students, and because its grade requirements tend to be deliberately low enough to be inclusive, which also tends to draw in a large number of mature students. Don't worry about being young though, there were still a few of us on my course who were under 25-ish and we all get on anyway, younger and older

Re: Walsall Accomodation. Is it worth it?Oh good, I think you've made the right decision there(Original post by Laura_Rawlings)
hi Catrox

And anyway, if you were to change your mind a little while in, they'd probably be able to put you on a waiting list for halls, or you could go into halls in your second or even third year if you wanted
But I really don't think you'll be missing out, because of the course you're doing.

Its up to you, you live so close to university? I want to move out, and live independently. Everyone's different, But it's the money? If I'd live so close to university like you do, I think I would commute. The amount of money you'd save, and you'll meet people on your course anyway so you will be going out and socialising, and at the same time you'll be living at home, own bedroom, not having the stress off money as much.

Re: Walsall Accomodation. Is it worth it?
is this the gorway rd campus? if yes, and u are only 10mins away...i'd say stay home and have some surplus cash at your disposal, for sure.
i live round the corner myself and was living in their library all last year whilst at college
- seemed a nice enuff campus but not so nice, u should pay a small fortune if u don't have to.
thanks.
