    Biology mutation/translation question
I have no clue how to answer this question....

    1. Describe the effect on the protein of the mutations. Show the translation of the mRNA sequence into a protein. Include the identification of the amino acids coded for.The mutation is identified in red (but it doesnt show red on here so I will just list beside it what they were). The original strand is:

AUG UUU UUG CCU UAU CAU CGU – original mRNA strand

    a) AUG UUU UUG CCU UAC CAU CGU – mRNA (the mutation was UAC)

    b) AUG UUU UUG CCU UAA CAU CGU – mRNA (the mutation was UAA)

    c) AUG UUU UUG CCU AUC AUC GU – mRNA (The mutation was AUC, AUC, GU)

    d) UGC UAC UAU UCC GUU UUU GUA – mRNA (the mutation was the whole strand)

I really don't know how I'm supposed to show the translation of these, any help will be GREATLY appreciated

Using a data table with all of the mRNA codons coding for amino acids, work out the amino acids coded for, and compare the new amino acids coded for to the original amino acid sequence

HINT: AUG = methionine, it's the 'start' codon.

AUG UUU UUG CCU UAU CAU CGU – original mRNA strand

    - the coded amino acids here are:
    Methionine (start) - phenylalanine - leucine - proline - tyrosine - histidine - arginine

    a) AUG UUU UUG CCU UAC CAU CGU – mRNA (the mutation was UAC)

    b) AUG UUU UUG CCU UAA CAU CGU – mRNA (the mutation was UAA)

    Use this:

    And see in red.

    Example:

AUG UUU UUG CCU UAU CAU CGU – original mRNA strand

    - the 5th coded amino acids here is: tyrosine

    a) AUG UUU UUG CCU UAC CAU CGU – mRNA (the mutation was UAC)

    - the 5th coded amino acid here (UAC) is also tyrosine - hence NO PROTEIN CHANGE
