Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?
Before you confuse Semitic with Jewish, Semites are people who speak Semitic languages Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabs, Assyrian etc.., mainly residing in the Middle East and N.Africa.
So why were all monotheistic prophets Semitic and Middle Eastern (Jesus, David, Abraham, Isaac, Noah, Moses, John, Jonah, Elias, Mohamad etc.. )?
How come there were no monotheistic scriptures sent to the Vikings for examples or the Aboriginals of Australia?Last edited by Revolución; 08-06-2012 at 21:09. -
Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?What about other people in remote areas far from the middle east and far from ''where most people lived''? Where they not worthy of ''The Message and Guidance''? The only Abrahamic religion that could get away without having to answer this question are the Jews because at least they admit they're chosen.(Original post by cgraham15)
if God was going to send a prophet, it only makes sense to send one to where most people lived.Last edited by Revolución; 08-06-2012 at 21:16. -
Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?Many of the prophets were Jews, and Jesus was a Jew. Most Jews lived in the middle-east during the time as well, none lived in Australia, for example. And the point of prophets is to spread Gods word to as many as possible. It's not that others weren't worthy, it was simply that there were more people in other areas therefore the prophet could do more good.(Original post by Revolución)

Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?Send more prophets to more areas then ? It's not like God is limited to a number of Prophets -.-(Original post by cgraham15)

Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?No but if you're gonna put out a million prophets then it kinda makes them less significant, obviously.(Original post by Revolución)

Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?Your saying God picked certain populations ( usually around the Middle East) at certain periods of time because he thought it was more feasible . Fair enough, lets see what others got to say..(Original post by cgraham15)

Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?
Muslims argue that since 14420 (or something like that. this figure is supposedly in the Qur'an) prophets were "sent down" and only a tiny minority are named, it cannot be suggested that prophets were not sent everywhere. I should know, I am from a Muslim background and have lost count of how many times I have heard this.
Though I always wondered that there are no signs of Abrahamic penetration in East Asia since most of the major religions there are non-theistic (do not believe or stress upon a God or gods). Most are metaphysical codes of behaviour but are not really centred upon an all-knowing, all controlling super-natural being.
It just makes me think that religion arises out of a context and is hence is a historical construction and not a metaphysical system. -
Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?I am from a Muslim background too, heard that a lot too. But like you said, if there were prophets sent around to other regions how come monotheism never caught on else where other than the middle east, later spread by the European elsewhere as Christianity.(Original post by The Owl of Minerva)

Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?Exactly. Something seems amiss with the argument regarding the universality of "God's message".(Original post by Revolución)

Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?
Plus I know many people (my Muslim parents and siblings mostly) who argue that Buddha and Confucius were actually prophets of God and their message was distorted by later generations.
However I cannot help think how it could be distorted so greatly: where God was totally removed from the picture in these East Asian faiths. I just see this argument as trying to validate the Abrahamic religions by making illogical conjectures about the past. -
Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?Too many prophets and God's gone over his monthly budget?(Original post by cgraham15)

Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?We athiests sometimes misinterpret the spread of religion, normally using the beginning of mono-theism or the God of Israel, as a starting point. People millennia before the God of Abraham, worshipped many things, mostly practical, The sun, the moon, plants, animals etc. God comes along and sends a prophet to one particular group of people forgetting other ancient civilisations. Why? Simple answer, religion is man made and spreads from a centre, the only spontaneous beliefs are the natural ones.(Original post by cgraham15)

Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?Judaism: The Jews are God's chosen people and thus the only one he's concerned to send messengers to as how others live he doesn't care about.(Original post by Revolución)

Christianity: Same as above but Jesus generalised the message, and why not make him a semite given you're sending him to the chosen people first
Islam: Other prophets were sent they're just not named. -
Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?According to Biblical sources, the prophets you mentioned were Semites who lived in Egypt and Canaan. The Hindu part was interesting though, never heard that one before, on what sources are you basing this ?(Original post by Martyn*)
Moses was an Egyptian. Noah was an Egyptian. Enoch was an Egyptian. Isaac was Egyptian. David was Egyptian. Abraham was mixed Hindu, Egyptian and Semitic. They were disguised by the Semitic peoples. -
Re: Abrahamic religions, why were all God's prophets Semitic Middle Easterners ?The earliest portions of the Hebrew Bible came directly from Egypt and Babylon, until they were mutilated by racist Jewish priests.(Original post by Revolución)
