I've always loved maths. I don't understand how people hate it so much >:
Having said all this, I did get an A in GCSE. I still think the Edexcel markers were genial drunks.... -
Re: Maths in school - loved it or hated it?
I hated maths in the juniors, mainly because when we were first taught arithmetic, I didn't immediately understand the methods the teacher used and she got very impatient with me and humiliated me in front of the class. I developed a psychological fear of the subject as a result. In the seniors, it was the only traditional academic subject I was weak in. I just about scraped a C at GCSE.
A few years ago, I decided conquer my fear, and took a maths textbook out from the library. I still can't do mental arithmetic, although I'm fine on paper, using the traditional 'column' method, so everyday calculations aren't a problem.
More importantly, I can now appreciate - dimly - the beautiful symmetry of the number system. Maths isn't for me, but I can see the fascination it holds for some people. -
