Just wondering if anyone else was considering a primary shcool teacher?
I am thinking of this but am not 100% sure at the moment..
If you're not too sure, try getting some work experience to give you a better idea, you need work experience to apply for a teaching degree anyway

I am
Well I'm not thinking about it...I know I definitely want to do it!
Like above poster said, if you're not 100% sure then get some work experience and it'll help you see what teaching is like in todays primary schools! Will make you realise whether you want to be a teacher or not! -

Coool!
Oh okay.. I got some work experience in the summer of 2010 (Year 10).. Do you think thats too old to put on my personal statement? & Yes I think work experience would definately help me to be sure. Do you need work experience for sure to apply? How are you thinking of becoming a teacher? I was thinking of doing a Contempory education course for 3 years and then a PGCE for one year to qualify me as a primary school teacher.. How about you? Thanks for you help!!!!

Re: Is anyone else in Year 12 thinking of becoming a primary school teacher?I'd say definitely try and get some more. Year 10 work experience seems a long way off from applying to Uni. In teaching, it's very competitive, so the more experience you have with children the better! Volunteer in a school for an afternoon every week or so, just built it up! You absoloutely need the experience to apply for the course!(Original post by bestfriends33)

I want to do the Ba Primary Education which is 3 years and you're awarded QTS at the end of it! Personally for me I think it's better because I'd rather spend the years at Uni working on something that's relevant and that will produce me with a positive and certain outcome at the end! PGCE's are competitive so I'd rather not risk not getting onto one!
Well I've always enjoyed school. As I got older I just realised that it wasn't an environment I wanted to leave, then through all my experience helping at a primary school this year it's just made it certain that I want to be helping children!

Re: Is anyone else in Year 12 thinking of becoming a primary school teacher?I'm applying like the other person said, by doing a Primary Teaching degree where you gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at the end(Original post by bestfriends33)

Yes, you must have work experience to apply and it needs to be within the last 12 months of you applying- so unfortunately , whilst you could put your previous experience in your PS, you need more recent w/e

Oh okay thank you both very much! ^ It's just going to be difficult for me to get work experience this summer? Im not sure when else I can do it?
Do you think next summer would be okay? Or is that too late? However, I do voluntary work, helping out every saturday for the past two years in a saturday school. I help for 2 hours teaching the year 6 children maths and english.. Would this be okay? :/ Sorry to keep bothing you both

Re: Is anyone else in Year 12 thinking of becoming a primary school teacher? That would probably suffice- if you want to double check you could always email some universities to see what they think(Original post by bestfriends33)

I'm doing mine in a fortnight, after my college breaks up for summer but school is still on going
I'm sure you'd be able to get some if you asked ASAP
I think you need it before you apply so you can draw on your experiences in your personal statement. Hope I helped

Re: Is anyone else in Year 12 thinking of becoming a primary school teacher? If you're applying this september then doing the work experience next summer won't be valid, since it will be after your interview/application for Uni!(Original post by bestfriends33)

I think your voluntary service in the Saturday school will definitely put you at an advantage, though I still think they want candidates to have experience in a state-maintained school, so like, experience 'real' modern schools rather than just a saturday school.
