Driving instructor fell asleep during lesson??
So I had a lesson today and i'm now a fairly competent driver and my instructor has started doing independent driving (so he only steps in when needs be) but in the last 20 minutes or so of my 1 and a half hour lesson today, on the way back to my house he was very quiet and I looked over and he definitely had his eyes shut...
But he did manage to err.. "wake up" before the junction before my house to give me a bit of criticism xD and at the end he told me my driving was very smooth......

I don't really want to say anything due to pure awkwardness but is that like legally allowed...? He's a very good instructor when he's awake..

    Any advice?

Totally illegal. Whether he was asleep or not is irrelevant; he is not 'in control' of the vehicle and therefore he is breaking the law. One could probably argue that you are as well as you are driving unsupervised...

Ahaa. If this was just a one off and you've used him as a driving instructor for previous lessons, then I wouldn't be too worried about this. Yes, it might be illegal but if this was just one occasion, and you've had like 20 hours with him already then I'd just ignore it.

Obviously, if he does it again then you should be worried O.O Maybe ask him a question if you think he is a going to sleep, or practise your emergency stop

I don't think you should get rid of him if he is a good instructor, just because he fell asleep once

My driving instructor did the same once when I was learning. I just carried on driving as normal and broke a bit harder than usual at traffic lights and he soon woke up

He obviously has enough confidence in your driving that allowed him to nod off (knowing you will not crash.) Perhaps a sign that you should go for your test?

If you're still at a test standard then I would imagine that it was a one off.

    Hahaha..
I had a driving instructor who would literally be on the phone the 45/60mins, screaming with laughter. She was annoying.

    LOL!
What a strange situation to be in!! My instructor always yawns, but he hasn't actually fallen asleep yet!
